'Tis said of that ancient brooding forest that even before the world grew accustomed to the light of day, her stems were grown high and her leaves already dark and contemplative. If ever those ancient trees have pondered, however, then it was in silent expectation, brooding on a bent that only they and perhaps a few others knew, for it has never been theirs to speak with vocal tongue. Mayhap they ponder simple things, or maybe they wonder on the many creatures which have come to crawl the earth since those days before days. For all manner of beasts and monsters have come from the outlands to slip into obscurity underneath the shadowy vale of the Darkenfold.

A dreadful fear and terror-born nightmare lingers in the shadows of Halfling's Halls.

Brambletoe Hall has ever been deep, warm and filled with mirth. Within, the good Mayor Willic Brambletoe long presided over tables of warm mutton, fresh apples, berries, peaches and the like, as well as wondrous breads, rich butter and cool drink. Mayor Willic welcomed all, inviting many various and sundry folk to sit and eat with him, or to gather about his great hall and make merry, pass the time and exchange news of distant happenings in exotic lands.

But something has changed in that noble Halfling's Halls. A Shadow of Evil has taken up residence there. Not many days past, in those deep hours before the dawn, the sounds of merriment changed to cries of despair. A haunting came to the Goodman's home and left an air filled with the noise of terror and a foul odor of unrepentant evil.

Abandoned now, a shadow hangs over the hall. Foul play or murder, none know. But the Shadow of Fear has spread, weirdlings haunt the late hours of the night, stalking the environs of Newbriar. And the locals now say that Newbriar has fallen under the same shadows that darkened Hafling's Halls.

In fear, the folk of Newbriar have called for aid, sending riders forth to find courageous heroes willing to rid the town and its population of the terror of the Shadows of the Halfling Hall.

Wow! Thanks for going to all that trouble.

It occurred to me that if you wanted to take a break I would be willing to run a game too. Maybe even Expedition to the Barrier Peaks! We could see what C&C is like at that 8-10 sweet spot. Lemme know what you think.

You're welcome . . and not too much trouble at all.

Yeah, that would be great if you wanted to run the game!!

I've never read the whole module only glancing at some sections, you could run it exactly as is - and I wouldn't have any advantage of prior knowledge (heh, 'cause most, if not all I would have forgotten).

Here's a thought, perhaps you might consider running the game on a different night (one of those night that Gringnr is open to) so Aergraith could play regularly.

And then we can continue Sunday gaming or not - or an occasional game.

Wadya think?

Hehe, it's a blast to read how powerful the classes are at 8, 9 and 10th level. Great abilities kick in and all of them seem to be so necessary to play this game.

I'm getting really excited about the game . . hopefully, you are too!

Well, unless he has already played this module - I understand. But if not . . not too many opportunities present themselves to be in a game like this.

I've been waiting about 41 years to get the chance!!!

Well, I am playing several campaigns over the course of 3 days every week.
It interests me, though we'd need at least 4 PCs I think, and every week, because it's big. IIRC Gringnr can only game on Sunday, and I have Lolth to deal with one of those Sundays, and the other one is Gringnr's game and back to my Xylh.
It's not impossible; I can't claim I am actually BUSY on non-game nights, but I should probably get outside once in a while.

Just tossing the idea into the wind but would a Wednesday or Thursday game work for you, Rhuvein? My son said he might be able to play. I am super curious to see what mid-level play would be like.

Yes, either day is perfect for me.

Just found an old post from Gringnr saying Tues and Weds are good days for gaming (better than Sunday) at least at the time.

I'm going to PM him to see if that is still true for him.

That'd be great if your son can play!

Splendid!

Let's aim for next Wednesday (tentatively). If I can't pull it together with a week of prep I'll give plenty of warning so you can make other plans.

Let's start with Level 8 characters
Give yourself appropriate armour and weapons. Supplies you can carry. Roll your hit dice 8 times.
Wish list: 2 special/magical items you'd like to come across in the dungeon. You may or may not find them.
Start with 1 luck point.

Chronicles of Scandia

Post by Tadhg »

Following up here in this thread for the off Sunday night game.

Mortality is a great module, but the party should probably level up. Steve's games tend to be challenging (that means they kick you character's ass all over the place)!!

So, I do have a short module put together that takes place in Scandia.

The Last Druid of Scandia

You guys can use your Scandia game chars previous and if you wish you can create one more char - hopefully a druid or ranger, but NOT absolutely necessary. There is a druid NPC at Fountain's Abbey if you want to ask him to join you.

And now - Exp to the Barrier Peaks, WEDS.

And Gringnr's game Sunday night.

See y'all then!!

It occurs to me as I finish the Scandia module that the current party with Thimbleberry might be the better party to tackle this adventure.

She and the wizard could have some special roles to play.

But again, it your call on chars.

Session IX - The final battle

The adventurers:

Gringnr as:

Thurgood, brave human wizard

Aergraith as:

Saxbert, mighty human fighter

Penny as:

Thimbleberry, discerning gnome druid

NPCs:

Lavinia, halfling cleric

Heru, human samurai warrior

The action:

After resting, the party continues north up a wide set of stairs. They proceed cautiously and step into a huge vaulted room that is so large, no one can see the other side. So they walk into the middle, where all can view support columns as well as large open entrances to the room from the east and west.

Suddenly, a huge purple worm blasts out of the floor to the northwest.

Tarresque . .

Ogre Mage . .

Ronin vs. samaurai . . to re-acquire the family katana.

Farewells . .

OK, so Gringr will run his game next week.

Even though I was preparing the forest adventure, Gringnr mentioned later in the day that he might prefer Lion in the Ropes.

No problemo, it's been many years since I first ran the adventure - but could do it again. I had hoped to scan pics for a better presentation of the game - but we still can have fun with the game if y'all want to do it.

Lemeno or we can chat online.

Discord then.
