Realm Works and C&C
Has anyone at TLG ever thought of putting in modules and rules into Realm Works to be sold on the Content Market?
Realm Works is a GREAT tool for CK's and GM's alike for any system. I am using it to create my own world but... any thought on putting in some C&C stuff to be sold this way?
I may be interested in inputting the info if the "powers that be" would be willing to sell it there as well.

They do it for Fantasy Grounds, but not any other VTT I am aware of.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I'm using it for my C&C game. So far I have some stuff from A0 Rising Knight entered, A1 is next. It's time consuming to enter so I'd love for these to be available that way. I have fantasy grounds, but I don't like it much.

Have you tried MapTools? Seems simple enough and it's FREE!anvil242 wrote:I'm using it for my C&C game. So far I have some stuff from A0 Rising Knight entered, A1 is next. It's time consuming to enter so I'd love for these to be available that way. I have fantasy grounds, but I don't like it much.
I just finished entering in "Night of the Spirits" module. It was simple enough, took about 4 hours to do.

Why not? It automates so much of the stuff the GM needs...anvil242 wrote:I have fantasy grounds, but I don't like it much.
Re: Realm Works and C&C
Its complicated and very cluttered. I much porefer Roll20 and even Maptools. If it wasn't for it being impossible for me to port forward through my ISP, I would like Maptools most of all.mmbutter wrote:Why not? Funny, I find it smooth and easy to use. And you can use a VPN if your ISP doesn't allow port-forwarding...Treebore wrote:Its complicated and very cluttered. I much porefer Roll20 and even Maptools. Re: Realm Works and C&C
Well, maybe if I used it more frequently I'd feel the same, but the game I am in that uses FG is lucky to run every two weeks, often maybe just once a month. Roll 20 and Maptools I have far more experience with, so am far more comfortable with them.mmbutter wrote:Funny, I find it smooth and easy to use. VPN? I'll have to google that.

Re: Realm Works and C&C
All my games are face to face, the learning curve was too much for me with Fantasy Grounds, and I just didn't see the point. I was starting from zero with it, however, and no one I know uses it. Realmworks seemed to have more of the features I wanted. I built a game table with a flatscreen in it, so the map reveal feature is really nice.
Re: Realm Works and C&C
I've thought about doing this, but hasn't been much of a point since I have no face to face games on a regualr basis anymore. Anyways, if I ever do decide to do it, what is the minimum size screen you would recommend? What would be the biggest?anvil242 wrote: I built a game table with a flatscreen in it, so the map reveal feature is really nice.

Re: Realm Works and C&C
The gaming surface of my table is 48x48. My flatscreen was a donated 42". I guess you could go bigger if you want, but I find I have space problems for dice and character sheets. I have my players use clip boards so they have a surface to write on. I built my table based on this youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spdescY ... g&index=10

I backed the KS for Realm Works. In the intervening months I found it clunky and time-consuming to use. It took them WAY longer than promised to produce the Content Market (which I was initially super excited about). It is a somewhat deep, involved tool with a learning curve. It does have one nifty feature where you can "fog of war" a map and reveal sections as the players explore. It allows you to configure a "target" monitor for the player view which is also handy. It does integrate with Hero Lab which is some of the most elegant character creation tool design I have ever seen (this coming from a professional Quality Engineer).
However, carrying around a laptop and projector + screen or 2nd monitor proved especially frustrating, especially for convention games. I can accomplish most of what I need in OneNote, Evernote or the like.
Even EXTRA however, I am a computer nerd who works on computers all day + a wannabe publisher who works on computers all night + a veteran GM who preps using computers and a printer for his binder SO...
I ditched all electronics at the table and went OLD SKOOL analog. Now my gaming time is also "MY GOD I AM SO HAPPY TO NOT BE IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER" time.
So, to be frank, RW is a tad before it's time. It would work much better in a static setup (like a regular home playing space). It has a learning curve. I cannot imagine it has had a lot of adoption since initial release based on my assessment. I would be wary of the size of the market for the Content Market and whether sales would justify the time spent.
Just my two cents,

Just my two cents,
Interesting, after using RW for some time now, I am able to enter information rather quickly (3 Monster Manuals & a Scenario) also my own realm Lerchanth in no time at all. I also am a computer geek...
The Content Market.... Yes I agree, took waaaay to long, but will be available in December 2016. Lets keep our fingers crossed....
The learning curve: Yes I agree, deep and involved. But that is because you can do LITTERALLY ANYTHING in it. I am still learning. One of the best ways to learn is Youtube or get invited to someone's realm and see what they are doing. We have a CHAT page where we share ideas and such. I have learned alot from these.
"It does have one nifty feature".... Actually it at TONS! You just need to get into the program and see what it can do. I dont think I will ever stop learning this very indepth program. And I love the REVEAL feature.
Target Monitor: This is way cool! And I agree on this point:
"However, carrying around a laptop and projector + screen or 2nd monitor proved especially frustrating" Yup, could not agree more.
"I ditched all electronics at the table and went OLD SKOOL analog. Now my gaming time is also "MY GOD I AM SO HAPPY TO NOT BE IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER" time.
In short, thanks for the input, and I agree and disagree.
I'm still a bit Leary of the Content Market, but we will see how it goes.
Thanks for the comments!
