Found this cool website that lets you upload a world map and it wraps it around an interactive globe. Then you can drag your cursor and spin the globe to see how your continents show up. I tried it with the Aihrde world map jpg and while it didn't quite wrap all the way round the globe it was pretty slick! Find the site here: http://maptoglobe.bitbucket.org/
EDIT: just discovered you can output your globe map as a gif which has your globe spinning in space. Very slick.

The only problem with using Aihrde or most other gaming maps is they don't provide the entire world, but only a section. For example the Greyhawk maps in the World of Greyhawk set only cover the eastern portion of the Oerik continent. Oerth has another continent which was never detailed.
Still cool however. I believe it would work with the Forgotten Realms, as I believe the whole of that world was mapped. Ditto for Aerth from Dangerous Journeys.
