Item Saves and Item resistance to attacks

Hi!

I would like to know how I can handle a situation where someone is attacking an item... a door for example. A fighter walks up to a door with no rogue in the party and decides to hack at it, but with the rust monster in the room with him, he's got little time to keep hacking. I need to know how long it would take to hack through. Is there an HP amount?

Stuff like this could/should be in the CKG. Stuff that a CK would need to know. I could just use older D&D books but I'm wondering how it's suppose to be handled in C&C?

EDIT:

BTW - I'm at work and during lunch I'm prepping an adventure for tonight. It's a 3.0 Dungeon Crawl I'm adapting to C&C and I just came across this door that they may ahve to bash to get past. It just occurred to me that I wasn't sure how to handle this. It may already be covered in the Players guide, but I don't have it with me so I'm just wondering. The door has (according to 3.0) 10 hardness and 60 HP and is made of iron.

I'd be inclined to use the 3rd edition rules -- give it a hardness and a number of hit points. Or simply give it some hit points and decide what will actually affect the door, for instance only bashing weapons and destructive elemental spells or magic missile.

I don't believe there are 'official' rules for it in Castles and Crusades.

OK, how about this ... if the fighter hits a non moving target such as this door, a TO HIT is not needed, instead he just rolls damage. Piercing and slashing damage do nothing to an iron door so it would have to be a bludgeoning weapon. The amount of damage from the weapon blow is the CL (Challenge Level?) value added to the Item Saving Throw. If the save fails then damage is inflicted less the hardness, othrewise full damage is inflicted. The item HP is the amount of damage before the door can be opened or pushed away or whatever... .

So, since IRON has a 'P' save at BASE 12, and lets say the fighter deals 6 points of damae in the first round, the CK makes a roll and has to get 18 or higher (12 + 6). The save fails so 1 point of damage is caused. This continues as long as they want to keep bashing or until the door finally gives way.

Is this correct?

I would like to see this sort of thing in a CKG, if possible.

For chopping through a door, rather than breaking it in, I'd just rule on how long it's going to take. Chopping through a door is not about strength and damage as much as it is about the right tool and enough time. For example, a flimsy interior door in a modern house might take a couple rounds, at most (and would probably be easier to bust in, rather than chop up). A sturdy, solid wood dungeon door bound with iron might take ten minutes or more. Once you assign a common-sense time for chopping down the door, you can decide if the monster is going to interfere with the process.

If the PC is trying to bust open the door quickly (e.g. knock it down, break the hinges or doorframe, etc) rather than chop through it, I'd call it a Str ability check, and apply modifiers for using an axe and things like that. This is a case where being big and strong would definitely matter. I'd allow one attempt per round, and how long it takes would be determined by how strong you are and how well you roll.
