Post by lecruit »

Should I purchase the Codex or are future releases planned that will revise the content? I've seen the Aihdre: After Winter's Dark product but its not nearly as large as the Codex, so Im a little confused.

Thanks for the info!

Erde is being revised. As to an expected release date of this material, I really cant say off hand.

The "A" series of modules is set in Erde, however, so that might be a place to start? ^_^

The Codex isn't *required* to play Castles & Crusades as it is simply a setting in which to place your own campaigns, but I would heartily recommend it. The setting was originally written for the D20 system and is currently being revised and updated for the Castles & Crusades system. The After Winter's Dark book is a lot smaller, but from what I've read they are going to be packing tons of material in there. And the book is only (currently, heh) meant to be a "primer" for the larger campaign setting that will be completed whenever the Trolls can see the tops of their desks again.
Hope that helps. For what it's worth, I say buy the Codex AND the AWD book when it comes out. Can't have too much Erde/Aihrde!!

I think you can't go wrong buying the Codex of Erde, no matter what happens. Right now it's $10 on the TLG mainsite. It's a tremendous campaign world and worth the full retail price, IMO.

The AWD - Aihrde book will only be 28, 32 or mebbe 36 pages and so, will be a mighty streamlined update that will probably be a nice addendum to the Codex, but not necessarily replace it.

You may want to read the thread on this in the Upcoming Projects forum.

Buy it. Even if they update it, it is definately worth the $10. Hell, as Rhu said, it's "worth the full retail price."

I have one and i would say it is worth getting. Even with the C&C AWD coming and the new setting material coming it will be worth the price to get.

As to the codex being replaced, eventually the new AWD and the red and white box sets will replace it but possibly not for a long time.

Indeed. Even though I am sticking with Greyhawk (as I am finding it hard to leave since I can now use all of my old notes and such with the C&C game), Erde/Aihrde is a great setting. I've read the Codex and intend on using the setting eventually.

And Steve just announced to day that he is finishing up on the After Winter's Dark primer.

Looks like the Aihrde fans have a lot to look forward to very soon. http://www.trolllord.com/newsite/cnc/8016.html

FREAKIN' AWSOME!!! Now all I have to do is talk the wife into letting me get it. That shouldn't be a problem as long as it stays at the $8.95 price they have listed.

Be sure to read the "authors intro" or Forward, or whatever the heck it is called. It tells you important stuff about where the Erde setting came from and "design decisions" that were made.

Like how the dwarvees are based heavily on Germans, the elves are French, etc... What to do about map scales and population sizes, etc...

There is a lot of grammar issues, layout its not great, but the content is definitely "top of the line" in my opinion.

Pick up the "Winter Dark" module as well. Especially if you like Runes.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Winter Dark module is becoming harder and harder to find. However, I do believe the Trolls still have some of this inventory left on their shelf.

Haven't got to it yet. I've been busy with Bergholt and Heart of glass but it is approaching the top of the pile.

I'm still wondering if this will be one of the mods that will be converted to C&C?

Hope so.

It'd be nice if the Trolls would pop in here and let us know one way or the other. I tempted to hold of on getting it, until I find out. I hate buying multiple copies of things.

Isn't "After Winter Dark" related? If not they should still put all the Runemark info in "After Winter Dark". Plus more new stuff.

Hmmmm. If I make GenCOn I think I should have a Runemark proposal ready. Worked for me last year.

I know of at least one copy at my FLGS. It's not being discounted (as I've already asked), but there is at least one option for you. Here's the store's website:

It's still listed in the Complete Product Listing (a Rich Text Format file) which you can find under the ordering tab even though it's a bit out of date. They *may* have a few copies left ... product code 1001 with a $5 list price.

Just for clarification though: 'After Winter Dark' is the primer for the campaign setting and came out before the Codex of Erde. The 'Winter Runes' is the module/sourcebook which includes the Runemark class.

It has always been my understanding that the upcoming 'AWD' accessory for C&C will work much like the original one in terms of providing a new and clearer primer for the setting. I'm certainly curious if the classes and races which are found in their d20 sourcebooks or the Codex will be in this accessory.

Then again, aren't there the Erde and Inzae box sets still to come? Maybe those would include some of these in greater detail.

Don't you guys love speculation?
