Is the Codex of Erde required or will it be replaced?

Speculation is the life blood of many gamers. They often are the DM's because speculation is so close to the skill of imagining a setting as if it were real.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Speculation is one, but I hate having to change things that I develop for a setting when the "official" sources come out after I invented the thing in the first place.

I could care less what the "official" thing is, since the fun is in making whatever is released viable with what I have imagined. So what if TLG decides Unklar is dead... I can say he faked his death as a plot to lull his opponents into being lax, and is just waiting for the right moment to strike. Just because its in print doesn't make it true, and just because its true doesn't mean its in print.

Yeah, I'm with Ser on this. IF I have done somethig "in house" I'm not going to let official change anything. What my group and I have done is "official", not something done by WOTC, TLG, etc... who are coming to my party way too late.

Take "Wicked Cauldron" for example. It came out so late for me that my group is 10th level. So I am running it at 10th level.

Plus the "wife" of Unklar is much more powerful as befits someone who can claim to be the "wife/concubine of Unklar". Unklar wouldn't have wasted his time with someone who has the original write up in the module.

After I get going on a campaign the setting and later modules in a series, such as TLG's "A" series, are adapted to fit what has happened in my game, not the other way around.

There are enough "bosses" in my life. I'm not going to let anyone but me be the boss of what is "official" in my campaign.

Like whaen I ran Faerun for 10 years. Intitially the Zhentarim were run by Manshoon and Fzooul Chembryl. Then for about the last 4 years I used the setting it was ran by "someone". Someone who definitely was not as evil as Manshoon and Fzoul were. However, Fzoul and MAnshoon "respect" who ever now runs the Zhentarim that they are very clear that they no longer have anything to do with the Zhentarim organization. Nor do certain churches/deities, such as Fzoul's god.

Thats my "official" Faerun whenever I run it. Plus whatever I like from the books that I can fit into my "official history".

Which is why I never understood some peoples complaints about all the official stuff and Novels put out for Faerun and Greyhawk. They contained nothing "official" for me. Just ideas for me to steal/consider for my "official" Faerun or Greyhawk campaign.

I understand the arguements, but I just like to have all my ducks in a row.

I've played under DM's who liked being "official", simply because they said it reduced their record keeping. Plus I have no problem with someone being "official". I just have a problem with people who complain about "official" as if they have to follow it.

I am not saying anyone in this thread has complained. Its just that I see it so often I respond to it when even a hint of it is suggested.

One of my numerous character flaws.

OK, I'll let you off this time, but don't let it happen again.

It's still listed in the Complete Product Listing (a Rich Text Format file) which you can find under the ordering tab even though it's a bit out of date. They *may* have a few copies left ... product code 1001 with a $5 list price.

Just for clarification though: 'After Winter Dark' is the primer for the campaign setting and came out before the Codex of Erde. The 'Winter Runes' is the module/sourcebook which includes the Runemark class.

It has always been my understanding that the upcoming 'AWD' accessory for C&C will work much like the original one in terms of providing a new and clearer primer for the setting. I'm certainly curious if the classes and races which are found in their d20 sourcebooks or the Codex will be in this accessory.

Then again, aren't there the Erde and Inzae box sets still to come? Maybe those would include some of these in greater detail.

Don't you guys love speculation?

Good post, good questions!
