RPG List

Post by angelius »

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a list of RPGs available in the market? I've kinda been out of the loop for a bit. And like Jman, I'm in a funk and I need to try something very different than C&C.

My other system of choice has to be Unisystem by Eden Studios, no generic book, but you can get All Flesh Must Be Eaten, or if you want a rather cheap copy oft he system, get Terra Primate from E-bay.

An even cheaper copy? Get the free witchcraft pdf rom drivethru rpg.

Oh sure. Everybody here, let's all list all the games that we'd rather play than C&C!
Come on angelius, get with the program. If you're in a funk, keep playin' C&C, just try something different:

Ravenloft

Wilderlands

Galaxy SEIGE (my name for it, hehe)

See Turinil's take on a underwater campaign on DF

Greyhawk

so many other - variations

But seriously, have a look at Lejendary Adventures. Just reading the book and building a character is fantastical reading and very fun!! 8)

Good luck my friend.

Do what I do, go to Noble Knights and just scan through their massive list of products by company. I read through the names till something strikes my fancy.

I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for but here are massive commercial RPGs and free RPGs lists. You should be able to find something that suits your fancy among those...
Happy gaming!

For a change of pace, I like:

Dying Earth

Call of Cthulhu (& Delta Green)

Savage Worlds

Behind Enemy Lines (old FASA WWII RPG)

Mutants & Masterminds

Lejendary Adventure

The Morrow Project

On the opposite end of the "rules" spectrum from C&C, but still fantasy, is RoleMaster. I've heard a lot of good things about Harp, too.

Like DD above, I go to Nobleknight and cruise the lists. You could also hand around various other messageboards to get an idea of other games to play. Dragonsfoot "Other RPGs" section has some good discussions, or even *cringe* RPG.net.

Another idea is to cruise RPGNow or drivethrustuff.com and get an idea of what else is out there. These two sites in particular have RPGs broken down into very defined categories.

We'll see you when you come back to good, ole' C&C.

I was in a funk, too, so I designed my own. We all have been playing for so long, it really isn't as hard as it sounds. Try putting your own game together and see what happens. I had a blast doing it. It is in playtesting now, but since I designed it, it has everything I like.

I was thinking some Conan. Or C&C without monsters just demons and what not.

A session of d20 modern worked well last time as well. It's so hard to keep a long campaign going. We're passed our 2nd year now and its getting to the point where I'm becoming less enthusiastic about the main campaign.

The other thing I like to do is one-shots or mini-series; I've been doing "fantasy history" games like that:

Ancient Greece (actually this took them to the eastern shores of the Black Sea, and also to the ruins of Troy)

Ancient Levant (I used Green Ronin's Testament)

Vikings

Others I'd like to try:

Night of the Living Dead one-shot

Crusades/Byzantium

Ancient Rome

Ancient Egypt

I do whatever sounds neat. Lately, I've been wanting to just kill stuff when not roleplaying, so I play board games like Talisman or Warhammer Quest, or whatever. Also, bene trying out some console games, or writing programs (stupid bug is back... need to get something better than what I've got though.) Anyway, other games I personally like are Gamma World and Shadowrun. Been looking at All Flesh Must Be Eaten, but since its a Unisystem game (not a fan of that, I must say... too GURPSy) but the idea is nice and easy enough to mutate and mutilate into something more... ummm.... entertaining to me. Oh, and the card game Zombies!!! You've got to play it if you like horror games. Its a must have.

I've been digging some old radio broadcasts of The Shadow so I've been thinking about running a pulp superhero game. Which leads me to ask, "How good is Mutants & Masterminds?" I've heard many-a-good-thing.

Definitely try a switch of genres or type of game for a bit. Like serleran suggested, some easy going lite boardgames where there is lots of action is always a good alternative.

Try a different type of game altogether like Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu, or even d20 modern. It's a great way to get the C&C juices flowing again.

I'm actually looking at doing a quasi-historical campaign if we ever end this Dragonlance campaign. Been tyring to dig up that old issue of Dragon that has an article on Anglo-Saxon Britain.

OTher systems I like to use when I'm burned out on D&D/C&C: Shadowrun 4E, Mutants and Masterminds 2E, Traveller, EPICrpg, HARP, L5R, and Synnibar. Others I like are Big Eye Small Mouth (especially for mechs).

Lately I have been getting an urge to try even older sysems, especially Chivalry and Sorcery.

For me, when I have been in a "funk" a total system switch has been the key. It doesn't have to be a genre switch, just a big change in how the system works. System and genre switch, together, have been the most effective for me, though.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Another interesting game that I had a chance to play last year was Tunnels & Trolls. Skathros ran a few chat game sessions along with Emryss and a few other folks. A lot of fun.

If you're intested there are a few docs on the game floating around.

My character was a leprechaun!

I think for a change in pace I might try Ghostbusters from WEG.

I love TWERPS. I have only played it solo, but it is so cool for a nice change of pace.

I have most of the expansions and it is a cool little system. And they don't call it the The World's Easiest Role-Playing System for nothing.
