Timeline advancement

Post by Julian Grimm »

Just wondering if there are any plans on advancing the timeline of Airdhe or adding in metaplot?

Please say no.

I just don't want to see this gem of a world buckle under any metaplot.

Unklar dies. The Eldritch Goblins vanish, and... umm, Inzae has a child. Yeah.

Unklar marries a princess of the Underworld, Worraine Lilliams, and the world collapses upon itself, like a flan in a cupboard.

It depends on how the "A" series plays out, and if my group succeeds in bringing the All-Father back to life.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Heh, but wouldn't Inzae block any collapse? Sort of, a layer of jalapeno protection as it were, and I'm thinking that . . . Worriane Lilliams is Unklar!!

Haha, stop it. Heh, if the Trolls were to sell C&C/Aihrde to wotc, then of course, there'd be a 3rd Edition of Castles & Crusades with a timeline advancement!!

I really don't see the timeline advancement as a big deal either way. I'd find it interesting as far as the writing was concerned, but I'd ultimately do my own thing with the setting regardless. I think most CK's are in the same vein.

Ink

Timeline advancement works if the time period is vast, like with the old d6 Star Wars RPG (prior to the 1999+ trilogy), you could play in the Imperial era, the era right after Return of the Jedi, or thousands of years prior if you wanted. I think where TSR/WotC got into trouble with Greyhawk is that THEY advanced the time and the actions of the players/PC's of the previous 20+ years were rendered null and void. That wasn't in the spirit of Greyhawk and mimicked Faerun where NPC's are the heroes and the PC's are errand runners or runners-up to the glory of Elminster and co. That's just my opinion, of course. YMMV.

They should have kept it at 576 and simply detailed more of the existing world. Or left well enough alone, but I digress.

As a CK, I also agree with this statement. However, I think it would be nice for TLG to establish a "base" for the setting before they start advancing the story timeline. Plus from a marketing standpoint, timeline advancement could prove financial viable as a product release in the future.
