Winter Anime 2024 recommendations for Idea mining

Post by Go0gleplex »

Table Top RPG idea mine Recommended Anime Jan-Mar 2024:

Ore Dake level up na ken (Solo Leveling): Dungeon delving in modern world…but something more is going on in a big way. This one is brutal and not for small kids (PG-13 optimistically if true to the manwa.)

Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 2nd Season (Tsukimichi Moonlight Fantasy): Comedy Fantasy with some really cool concepts useful for your RPG game. Don’t expect more than brain candy level plot. (catch season one if you’ve not done so already)

Saijaku Tamer wa Gomi Hiroi no Tabi wo Hajimemashita (The Weakest Tamer began a Journey to Pick up Trash): Despite the title, the story is actually full of intrigue and again, several concepts useful to your RPG game. What happens to all that damaged and wasted delving gear, items gone bad, etc.?

Saikyou Tank no Meikyuu Kouryaku: Tairyoku 9999 no Rare Skill-mochi Tank, Yuusha party wo Tsuihou sareru. (The Strongest Tank’s Labyrinth Raids: A tank with a rare 9999 Resistance Skill got kicked from the Hero’s Party) Idea mining for your RPG and just fun brain candy.

On-going Anime.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. What happens to those non-human party members with life spans longer than their fellows…how they relate to the world and those others in it. This has got a LOT of depth to it with lots of RPG fodder to plunder. Surprisingly well done.

Absolutely great dungeon anime going currently; The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Covers things like monster evolution, dungeon delving, traps, etc. LOTS of idea fodder!

Are there any finished anime that I could binge watch? I don't like waiting for weekly episodes..

All of the above are now finished with at least one season. Moonlight is on it's second season at the moment.

That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime is just starting Season 3, so it has two seasons and several OVAs done. Record of Lodoss War, Ruin Explorers, The Slayers, Log Horizon, Freiren: Beyond Journey's End (probably one of the absolute best), Spice & Wolf (good for economics), Wise Man's Grandchild, Overlord (if you want it from the monster's side - rather dark after first season), Misfit of Demon King Academy, and many others; some I've not watched simply due to not my taste or lack a credible plot.

For a unique RPG twist inspired by anime, how about a campaign where players are reincarnated into a fantasy world as characters from various anime series? Each player embodies a character with unique abilities and traits, navigating through dungeons, facing off against monsters, and unraveling mysteries inspired by the worlds of "Solo Leveling," "Tsukimichi Moonlight Fantasy," "The Weakest Tamer began a Journey to Pick up Trash," and more. The campaign could explore themes of identity, purpose, and the consequences of power, with plenty of room for comedic moments, epic battles, and character development along the way.
If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, geometry dash you’ll never get it done

BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouth) RPG does this pretty well as the backbone for the rules. :) But yeah...plot stuff and using NPCs/Villains against the PCs is always fun.
"In Media we have a saying. When one family line ends another begins...mine is beginning and thus it is your end little girl!" (from one of my plot ideas after watching one of the older anime several years back. ;)

I use them for character class ideas as well which is why I have more than twice as many options than the official ones such as Recovery Mages and Animators (Puppet Masters)...etc. Weakest Tamer and Freiren are probably some of the best written plot line stories in the vein you are talking about (or just anime period) that I've ran across ever. Though to be fair, finding any good anime or manga anymore is getting to be more of a challenge as the authors/publishers/studios tend to rely more on Ecchi and H to sell their products than story and character building like the masters of the old days did.
