BTH=Extra Damage(Input requested)

Post by Maliki »

A crosspost from DF.

Being one to tinker with rules, and being inspired by another thread at DF, an idea popped into my head and I was looking for some feedback.

In the another thread Elfdart stated that in 1E, in place of exceptional strength, he gave fighters a +1 to damage every two levels. I thought about it and thought about expanding it to all classes based on thier bth bonus, as follows.

bth 0-1 = +0 damage

bth 2-3 = +1 damage

bth 4-5 = +2 damage

bth 6-7 = +3 damage

bth 8-9 = +4 damage

bth 10-11 = +5 damage

bth 12-13 = +6 damage

and so on.

My logic is that as one becomes more experienced in combat weapon skill should allow for additional damage as well as an improved chance to hit. (Another thought was to add this bonus to AC as well)

How do you think it would work?

Would it upset game balance? Make Character too tough?

Be more suited for a low magic game?

Should monsters get this bonus as well, base on thier HD?

I gave my thoughts on Dragonsfoot.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Thanks, I know most people visit both forums but there may be a few who don't, and I like to get as much feedback as possible.

I think I would use this in a low to zero magic campaign, however I would give the benefit to all classes. The fighter will still do the most damage because he has the best BtH but the other classes won;t be too far behind. I think C&C already does a good job of balancing everything and I wouldn;t want to mess it up.

My idea was to expand it to all classes. I am currently thinking of a low magic campaign, at least in regards to magic weapons.

Serleran - Dude, you're picking on kobolds! Use something else in your examples.
No AC bonus...unbalances the game...and if you give the special damage bonus, monsters like ogres, giants and dragons should get it too.
