Player begging on knees to join online game.

Post by slimykuotoan »

I'm seeking to preferably play through 'Skype' -I type one finger style, and find chat a little boring.

I'm really flexible where hours are concerned, live in the Mountain time zone, and am relatively friendly.

If no one's tried Skype, it's free, takes 3 minutes tops to set up, and I'll walk you through it, etcetera...

Due to the overwhelming responses I've received so far from this post, I feel it necessary to set up some criteria to review applications, etc...

I'm up to playing using SKYPE. I would just like to get involved in a game that actually keeps going. I've joined 4 and they all died pretty quickly.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Excellent, now we need perhaps one more person...

I'm already GMing a C&C game at the moment, and wouldn't mind playing, but I guess we can work things out when we get another response, etc.

I'd be up for playing; however, my time for the next 2 weeks is very limited due to my wife's up coming production of "Oklahoma!" and all the sets and props I have to build. But after the end of the month, I should be available just about anytime in the evenings (I'm in the Eastern time zone).

I'd like to play if y'all will have me. Are you thinking a weekly or bi-weekly game? Evenings PST are best for me. Let me know!

Perfect guys, I was hoping for once a week if possible...

How's about Treebore, Inkpot and I get things rolling, and whenever Rigon wants to join in is fine.

Now, about the game: as to adventure, gm and level...

What day of the week are you wanting to play? As for adventure, gm, level.....adventure doesn't matter, gm - I'd like to play for a change, and I'd prefer starting out at first level.

If I CK my daughter will be able to play too. Heck, with SKYPE anyone within the microphones range will be able to play.

I would prefer to play too, but I'll CK if everyone is OK with doing Casey's Haunted Highlands module series. If we get ahead of the releases I'll be able to wing it easily enough. Besides, maybe Case will let us playtest stuff.

As for when, I would like to try and do once a week, and I am Arizona time, which I believe currently coincides with PST. Arizona NEVER changes its clocks, we don't do Daylight Saving Time changes.

My preferred day would be Sunday, preferably in the evening. I can do any day other than Friday and Saturday most weeks.

I'll also need everyone to PM through this board so I can send you a copy of my house rules and see if you all want to use them. Otherwise we'll go hard core C&C. Which, BTW, means we will still use my "feat like actions" because it is 100% SIEGE. I just worded it in 3E terms because that was much more familiar to my players.

Sunday's are good for me.

My Skype name is kuotoan.

Also, we can alternate gming as well if you like; after a few games I could gm an AD&D module.

Do you have a variation of the C&C barbarian?

No I don't have an alternative Barbarian worked up. IT will be easy to do so though. Part of the charm of C&C.
I haven't used a SKYPE account in about a year. Is it still free? I'm sure I will have to set up a new one.

An AD&D module will be fine with me, let me know which ones are likely so I don't read through it looking for stuff to add to my campaign line.

That is one thing (among many other things) I am loving about C&C. Its taking so long for them to level up I get to run them through waaaay more adventures than I could in 3E. So I am pulling out and reading through pretty much every adventure I have ever bought to see what I can sensibly fit together for my current campaign.

Which is why I would like to use Haunted Highlands. I have lots of modules that would fit that theme almost perfectly.

Yip, Skype's still free.

I'm guessing you're not giving xp for treasure and magic items?

I was thinking of a few options: Temple of Death, Dwellers of the Forbidden City...

Am I right in assuming that Skype takes a microphone? If that's the case, I'll have to dig mine out.

I'm good with most nights, except Wednesday (poker night). The only problem I fore see would be the times, as I think I'm 2 to 3 hours ahead of most ya'll. I could play anytime after 6 pm EST up til 12 am EST.

Other than that, I would be able to play for another week and a half. MY GOD! I'll be happy when the musical is over!!!!!

Yes, Skype requires a microphone. If for some reason you can't find yours, you can get them pretty cheaply now - roughly $15-$20 for a headset w/ mic at Wally World....

6 would be 9 PM PST. I am self employed, so Ink and Kuatoa can determine how late we go, since I assume they have real jobs with a boss. Its good to be your own boss. Sleep in as late as you want, most days.
Its why I don't miss being in the Navy or being a teacher. Had to get up way to darn early for me.

Oh, yeah. Guess I spent too much time home schooling my son in Algebra today. Got my positive and negative signs mixed up.

What "world" would you guys like me to stick the Highlands in? Erde? Wilderlands? Greyhawk? Wildwood? Faerun? Ravenloft? ( )

DCC 35? Mystara? Kalamar? Don't care?

Doesn't really matter to me, since my campaign planet/world has all of these settings on it. With histories rewritten to be a bit more ambiguous and inaccurate to allow for this.

Skype really opens the door to 'roleplaying goodness'....so much in fact, that I can't understand why anyone would go with 'chat', etc.

You can literally stare down into your potato chip bag and pretend everyone's in the same room with you.

Combine this with an online/virtual dice roller, and violla!

It's actually a little surreal; I played a game the other week, heard sirens and stared out of my window, while listerning to everyone ask: "You here that? etc."

Untill one guy exclaimed: "Uh, sorry guys, looks like it's outside my window...I'll close it."

It was pretty cool considering he was in another country...

Believe it or not, there are still some places in the world that do not have high-speed internet. Hell, the place where I live has only had DSL capability for the last two years. And you don't EVEN want to try voice chat over dialup. *shudders at the memories*

Beyond that, I'm really psyched about getting this rolling. I've never *PLAYED* C&C before...always had to CK.

DSL is the best available to me where I live, unless I want to pay hundreds up front for satellite.

I need e-mails for everyone to send my house rules and see if your interested in using them.

Character creation: Honor system. I don't care how you create your character. Just make one you'll like playing.

My preferred method is roll 4d6 and re-roll until there are no one's or two's, take the best 3, arrange as desired. You should average around a fifteen with this. Then you add racial mods.

Just make sure your happy with your character. I don't want you playing something your not happy with.

Ghul had an interesting post:

BARBARIAN:

Primal Fury: fatigue effects to last for 30 minutes.

Scale ability (dexterity): as per the C&C ranger.

Survival Ability (wisdom): as per the C&C ranger, but terrain type must be of the barbarians native habitat.

Tracking (wisdom): as per the C&C, but terrain type must be of the barbarians native habitat.

Hide in natural surroundings (dexterity): the barbarian can hide in natural surrounding that are familiar to the barbarian (i.e., native) as per the C&C thiefs hide ability.

Leaping and springing (strength): Barbarians are able to leap up to a maximum distance of 10 feet forward, 3 feet backward, or 3 feet upward from a standing start. If the barbarian is able to move freely and get a running start, they can forward leap 15 feet plus and additional 1d6 feet with a successful strength check.

First Aid (wisdom): With a successful wisdom check, this skill allows the barbarian to bind wounds, set sprains or broken bones. The barbarian immediately regains 1 hit point and thereafter regains hit points at twice the normal rate (2 per day). The barbarian can also bind wounds to prevent further loss in hit points of other characters. Such first aid restores 1 hit point immediately, followed by standard recovery rate.

Outdoor craft (wisdom): The barbarian can identify plants and animals of his natural habitat without having to make a check. With a wisdom check, the barbabrian can also determine direction or predict weather.

Finally a barbarian may select 1-3 of the following tertiary skills depending on the locale or culture from which he originates. This effectively replaces any other background skills that other character classes may have. These include:

Animal handling (wisdom): The barbarian can handle domestic and wild animals. Usualy this is restricted to dogs, but could include wolves, large birds, giant lynxes, etc.

Horsemanship (dexterity): The barbarian is skilled in using his horse in combat as per the C&C knight, though not as skilled (melee penalty -1, ranged penalty -2) or necessarily as able to pull the various trick maneuvers.

Long distance signalling (wisdom): The barbarian is capable of using signalling methods of his native land (drums, smoke, mirror flashes, etc.) to communicate over long distances.

Running (constitution): This skill enables the barbarian to move at full speed (twice the normal movement rate) for no less than three days before having to rest by spending a day moving at normal rate. With a successful constitution check, the babrbarian may resume running again after the day of rest.

Small craft, paddled (wisdom): The barbarian is skilled in the building and use of small canoes and hide boats.

Small craft, rowed (wisdom): the barbarian is skilled in the building of wooden boats and the rowing and/or sailing of these boats.

Sound imitation (charisma): The barbarian with this skill can mimic various sounds, including bird or animal calls, either for the purpose of luring those creatures or for signaling.

Snare building (wisdom): This skill allows the barbarian to construct dead-falls, pits, and other traps for large and even very large animals and like creatures.

How's about this one?

My laptop is doing a "slow crash" so I am going to be setting up a new Skype on my wife's laptop. After I get that done I may be able to offer some advice.

With regard to the honor system with dice rolls, etc. It might be a good idea to use an online roller which e-mails you the results of our atribute rolls.

Can I get your e-mail address Treebore?
