Hall of Many Panes

Post by JRR »

Anybody ran this yet? I posted this on the old boards, never did get much feedback. I'm getting ready to run this, might start this Thursday. Anyone have any advice - especially on that Gygax-cursed mobius strip? I'll probably blow that part, as I find it hard to map it out in my head.

Anyways, I'll probably add a few more panes, like Crypt of the Devil Lich by Goodman Games, and some other pc grinders I can dig out. Yes, I am a bastard.

I ran it before it was printed, and had a great time doing so. Some of the panes require a lot of work, either to understand, or just to get them to play out the way they're intended. Great fun, though.

Sounds interesting. Where can I find this adventure?

Should be able to get it direct from the Trolls, who might have it listed as HOMP. Its a dual-stat LA/d20 game, but is massive, and takes quite a long time to run through. However, it is very modular, and you can make it an entire campaign base, dumping any other module into it, and just call it another pane... so, in reality, its sort of a world, too. Very neat concept. I plan on re-running it with the final installment (when it comes out) of CZ, since its supposed to have a lot of planar stuff (well, according to the blurb about it) which I think will tie in perfectly.

Never played or run it. The concept is very cool, and from what I've heard sounds like a good game. Maybe one day.

IIRC I already replied to this thread on the old board.

I'm still running HomP, with the party having travelled through three panes so far. The subtitle "An adventure of significant playing length" is very true - with us playing about once a month, this will certainly take several years to complete.

No, there are activations, but not everything that is in the full rules (which I don't have -- waiting for the hardcovers). Not every ability, either.

A Different Hall of Panes issue

Post by Lunamancer »

I can't remember where I read it, but on some message board I heard that the cheat sheet that was accidentally omitted from the Hall of Many Panes could be downloaded from Troll Lord Games web site, although I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Has anyone just robbed it for one-shot scenerios to use outside HoMP?

I am using it for my campaign as a tool to develop different worlds. My campaign is very similar to the Stargate SG-1 TV show with the PC's being much like SG-1.

The different panes are used as different worlds/settings. So far I haven't gotten to far into it, but it has lots of great resources.

Hmmmm.... Contemplating using this (got the idea from the D20 area here where someone is using it for an Stargate type thing) as a way to probe the panprobability ability. That ability doesn't get much thought most times. Perhaps some dude screwing around with them and wanting adventurers to see what they find? Maybe even using a C.S. Lewis type idea of them getting to an area with pools, and each one takes them to a different dimension. One could use this avenue to use HOMP without diving into the whole campaign.

I ran HoMP with C&C playtest v3.18 so I don't recall... there might be stuff that was cut, as well. I'd have to delve into the document I got and compare it with the final release, or Gary could say if stuff was dropped out.

HomP is best when played with the LA game system, and that's a fact

I recall reading eons ago that HoMP is going to be reprinted without the d20 stat blocks. Anyone know anything recent about this? I checked the works in progress page and couldn't find anything on it.

I was under the impression that all the dual-d20 stuff was, at one point or another, going to go either LA, or C&C. I do not know for certain. I would assume HoMP would be LA, as its obvious Gary would have preferred that (see the post two up.)

HOMP is going the LA direction, eventually. Just haven't got there in the product cue yet.

Distant horizon. Gotcha! I guess I'll have to break down and shell out the $40 to get the current printing. I am going to lose soooo much money at LGGC this year.

Honestly, I don't know where it's at in the cue? Wouldn't take long to remove the sd20 tat blocks though.

It took me one day to gut the Hermit and restat everything. Given the doc and the word from Steve this could be turned around in short order. (after the Revised LR4AP is done )

I think the best way to go is straight LA. That's what it was written for and what it works best in.

Definitely. I'm just looking to get a thinner product without d20 clutter.

Without the d20 clutter, it will definitely be thinner!

I just picked this one up at a local store here in Virginia. (And, as it turns out, every other TLG LA-specific product except Essentials, which I already have...I'm all caught up for now.)

Should be quite a bit of interesting reading in my future.
