Cult of Yex#1: Bystle Vale
Does anyone have this yet? I'm interested in impressions and opinions. The writers' blurb sounded cool (http://www.trolllord.com/newsite/d20/yex.html) apart from the name "Boxxaway", who is the PCs' mentor.
(I may be getting it in PDF form when it migrates to the website.)

Still waiting for my local FLGS to get a copy of YEX in store. I'd like to take a gander at it before I dive in, because, frankly my d20 days are winding down). But good material, is good material in whatever form it comes.

I am super excited for this campaign. About how long does it take to ship? More importantly, is Troll Lords 100% positive that they will NOT CANCEL the publication of this amazing campaign? That would be very, very disappointing. Just thinking about this is giving me a DnDgasm.

I'm curious as to whether or not the adventure is capable of being played in a single session, and if so, how long would the session be.
I know it's difficult to be exact as each group of players are different, but is it meant for 4-6 sessions, or 1-2 kind've thing, and can some fat be trimmed down to make it a single session adventure without hurting it too much? Single session being anywhere from 4-8 hours or so.
Nothing exact, just seeking some thoughts on it. It sounds fantastic and I would either use it with Lejendary Adventure or OAD&D. Possibly a homebrew system or Silhouette too, but certainly not D20.

I just hope they won't do another Bergholt (One part released - nothing more...). Especially with 4e on the horizon, it would be nice to have a faster release shedule.
I have finished reading through "bystle Vale" and I love the locales presented in the adventure. Great ideas. Please keep 'em coming.

Yex is moving along. All the text is written and being laid out. At this point we're working on the covers for the project. We plan to have the entire series out before the release of 4e.

Greetings,
I am one of the authors.... (Parker Garlitz). Sorry I haven't checked in here in a bit... but it has been hectic lately. I'll check in much more often from now on to answer questions.
Most of the modules in the series are designed to advance a party 2 levels. A couple of them are designed to advance a party by 3 levels. How long does that mean in play time? In play testing you can do a module in two 4-hour sessions if you stay focused. Realistically it is 3 sessions to finish a module, and maybe four sessons to finish the longer modules.
Also, the story should be easily modified to fit C&C or any other system you like.

And they say level advancement is not quick in d20.... one level per session, roughly (if it takes two to go up two, that's one per...)
Ok, here's one then:
Why did you opt to design it to advance much more rapidly than normal (unless I'm mistaken and there are more than 50 encounters per modules [which, by the way, gets progressively longer to finish as the party advances in level...])? Was it to make it "more fun?"
Just seems like that's god-awesome fast advancement.

We followed the DMG guidelines for monster & treasure to the letter... with the exception that we did add in CR based XP awards for solving puzzles and certain story elements. Which means that there are a few less monster encounters than normal which speeds things up a bit. But there is no shortage of hacking.
After running several groups through playtesting, I stopped keeping track of XP altogether and simply advanced the party at the proper spots, because the XP pacing is spot-on based on DMG guidelines. I added notes to the modules periodically on where the party should be. Eliminating the cumbersome tracking and calculation of XP sped things up quite a bit, but that is purely optional.

The Troll Lords did mention in January that this project is still slated to be d20. At least I think they mentioned Cult of Yex 2 being d20. When we'll see it... well only Troll Lords know such things.
