If you want to avoid a monster like this, don't ever -- EVER -- volunteer to work at (or run) the GenCon convention auction. (Been doing it for 25 years.) Or any other game auction, for that matter. And avoid eBay. And yard & estate sales. And, and, and...
You learn all the market values. And then whenever something doesn't get as high in price as it should... wow it's a good deal, and bang, the card goes up... Eventually you need a bus or semi to haul all the stuff home.
And you end up paying a lot for storage space. ::sigh::
