Subraces?
Subraces?
Hi all,
Has anyone statted up subraces for Aihrde in their own games? I find it a little odd that elves are the only race with subraces in the Codex, but I've more or less copied what's there for use in my own campaign. Has anyone done anything with the dwarves, halflings, gnomes, etc? I'd love to see it if you have. Either post it here or shoot me a PM. Thanks in advance! =)

The only thing I can say is that... coincidentally I was looking at exactly the same thing about a week ago. I'm just hoping they have something in the upcoming After Winter Dark accessory. If not... most can *probably* be used straight out of the codex with the exception being High Elves... for those, I'd probably just state that the elves as described in the PHB can be considered High Elves for simplicity's sake.

Also sory on this end. I'm kicking around ideas for various subraces (I did a write up of the Rohan) with a Tolkienesk feel but life keep slowing me down. I'll steel alot of that for my home brew but that is way down the road.
For the general feal of my home brew
Elves will have the normal 3 posibly (a 4th) subraces (plus 1 or 2 evil to be in the shadows) They will be fairly much out of MERP converted to C&C (with the addition of the Crusader's write up for elves I beleve it was #4 for the wild elves)
Dwarves 2 to 3 & 1 evil
Human
3 subraces but at least 5 socity write ups on the good guy side, evil ..... it makes my head hurt thinking about all the work there.
Hobbits I'm not sure, I enjoy hobbit but not sure how to break them down.
Gnomes never been a fan so not a lot of juices flowing there.

The High Elf character class in the Codex always sort of cracked me up....because, I mean....what if a dwarf wanted to play a high elf?
Anyway, yeah I'm hoping that subraces get included in the AWDCS. Time will tell, of course.

I don't play the official Game World...
However, I do have my own subraces of Elves, Dwarves and several cultures of humans. I have only one type of Halfling, because that's plenty of Halflings and there's no Gnomes in my gameworld.

Here's a few short spots about them:
Hill Dwarves - Live in cities with Hesponians, they are Swashbucklers (Think short Inigo Montoya clones, from The Princess Bride). They have "Spanish" Accents and wield Rapiers and Main-Gauche as their primary weapons.
Mountain Dwarves - Nobody knows how Mountain Dwarves live anymore. The few found in the world are maddened or practically empty minded. The truth is those ones are such due to a punishment for not keeping secrets. The Mountain Dwarves are "technologists", highly secretive and quite paranoid. Beyond that, they have the "traditional" Dwarf look and while some of them wield Heavy Hammers and Battle Axes, they also wield Gunpowder weapons. (I am working up a new class called the Dwarven Engineer when/if anyone wishes to play one of these secretive, paranoid guys.)
High Elves - Aloof, nearly emotionless immortals. They will never die, unless killed, need to sleep only for a few hours every dozen or so years and can go a few years before needing to eat, although they tend to eat more often for the flavor or to be kind to their hosts. They are rare in the lands as they have difficulty socializing with the fast/short lived races of man. They are extremely tall, with their shortest members being about 6ft 5in and their tallest reaching just under 8ft.
Sun Elves - Happy go lucky, free spirited very cheerful and fearless people. They are shorter than humans, have long ears that gives them the ability to hear noises quite easily. They live in great cities with the Phrenc people in the Kingdom of Selense.
Snow Elves - An offshoot of the Sun Elves, they live in the icy north alongside the Geltian people. They love the cold and can't help but toss snowballs around at the first snow that sticks, wherever they travel.

I only worry about sub races when players ask if there are any they can play.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I avoid subraces in my campaign kinda. To me the only difference between a high elf and a wood elf is that one lives in the woods. maybe allow for some variation of hair and eye color but to begin changing attribute modifiers and what not I think is a bad idea.

superficial changes to hight coloration and culture are OK
major changes to innate powers and attributes are BAD

For a difference of subraces you could just change the weapon training per subrace like +1 longsword or shortsword high elves, +1 short/comp shortbow or longbow/com longbow wood elves.
If you use the gray elves the M&T has a +1 WIS and +1 INT on stats, but I'm not sure if that includes +1 DEX, -1 CON.

Well, the elves are pretty easy to convert from the Codex. I was mostly just surprised that there were/are no dwarven, halfling, or gnomish subraces. I could always rape an old version of the D&D PHB, I s'pose....and give them an Aihrdean flavor.....

I haven't stated any subraces, but have used them as NPCs from time to time. So far, I'm running C&C almost BtB, using Aihrde. Sort of a playtest, if you will of the game and campaign world. But I do like trying some of the many character/class variations posted here, there and everywhere. Probably not a real playtest of those variations, but a fun flavor enhancement for my PCs to deal with.
