Lost City of Barakus conversion to C&C...HELP!

Post by StealthSuitStanley »

I've been reading the Lost City of Barakus and I want to run it. Problem is, I'm having some trouble with conversions. Converting NPC's is easily done except some of the character classes. What's an Exp? An Ari? A War?

Is there a link where I can find this sort of info?

Thanks in advance for the help!

The SRD has the info. An Exp is an Expert. An Ari is an Aristocrat. A War is a Warrior.
Hypertext SRD

Just search it, using the names of the NPC classes.

Basically, you'd be converting "classed" NPCs, which is, essentially, a waste of time unless they actually have a C&C class.

I'm using a lot from this and blending it into my Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. Still unsure where I'm *exactly* going with this but I was unsatisfied with the massive and seemingly endless dungeon crawling that the later parts ToEE would bring me. Elements... er... parts of Barakus I mean, a very much smaller and more modular and the main quest can be spaced out with fun unrelated adventures.

I've considered making use of it in C&C, just haven't got around to it yet as I've got about a bajillion other ideas as well. I've currently got a plan and location to use it in Greyhawk, it just has to wait its turn.

These are typically NPC classes for the 3rd edtion game. However, I've now run a NPC/commoners game twice in that system is it's fun.

Anyways, I generally like Lost City, and have considered converting it to C&C, but havn't. One thing I do like about Lost City is the ton of "in-between" stuff that a CK can add to really make it part of his own campaign. That super-adventure is epsiodic enough to really make it adaptable to any CK.

I used Endhome as a major city in my first C&C game. The side quests and mini-dungeons are a nice way to fill out a campaign. My players are not big into long multi-level dungeon crawls, so the side adventures really made it worth while.

I had come from 3E so converting NPCs really wasn't a problem I really don't mind the NPC classes and pretty much kept them as is, they really didn't play a big roll in most adventures.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever done a conversion of the 3.x NPC Classes to C&C? I'd always thought they were sort of a cool idea. But perhaps they're sort of useless in C&C...

I liked the NPC classes in 3E, but really found no use for them in C&C, if I want an above average NPC without a class I just add a few HD, so its possible IMC for the town blacksmith to have two or even three HD, but no class abilities.

PJBlake, on the NEcromancer Messageboards, has made this awesome mapset for use with RPTools MapTools program.

MAptools is free, get the version linked by PJBlake near the bottom of page one. Plus download the newest JAVA version.

Then download the maps. 41 Megs of them after they are unzipped.
http://p208.ezboard.com/fnecromancergam ... =1&stop=25

Plus PJBlake has permission from the Necro Lords, and it does have an OGL as part fo the download.

Great for on line play.

Barakus Question

Post by Tron »

I am also playing Barakus with C&C and have a quick question. Although this is not directly a conversion question.

I've utilized the side adventure with the Wererats in the sewer, the missing nobleman (Charlie Kilkaren), and their connection to the Pulanti Estate. In the Wererat Warren, the text mentions a "map" on the table of area 1D and directs you to (see below). However, I can find no further details. Does this map tie the wererats to the Pulantis? Am I missing something? How have you handled this situation?

Thanks for the help...

If I remember correctly, its been about 4 years, the map shows how the were rats get into the Pulanti compound. I believe the Pulanti write up gives that info.

If you haven't done it you may want to go to the Necromancer boards and check out the LCoB forum to see if its been discussed there. I forget who the author is, but you may be able to PM him via the boards.

Thanks Treebore...that was my assumption also. I checked out the Necromancer boards and there is a topic that basically confirms our assumption.

My problem is the players are a little low level to tackle the Pulantis. Maybe I'll use a map of the sewers and a coded message from the Pulantis that can be figured out later

I haven't but then again I stat NPC's as monsters.

Help with a Code

Post by Tron »

Okay, upon further consideration...I have decided to go with a coded message on the table in the wererat's lair. The message will be from the Pulanti's and will tie the wererats to them.

This will give the players a puzzle to work on and will give them time to build their experience before tackling the Pulani estate.

My question is, does anyone have an idea for a code that I can use? It should be somewhat difficult, as I want them to spend a considerable amount of time figuring it out (or maybe they need to find a key).
