This Sucks

Post by DangerDwarf »

I used to be able to put down an ungodly amount of beer and only get a slight buzz. Now, with all this heart medication, it only takes me three to get buzzed. The medication has given me the alcohol tolerance of a girl!!!

What's even more irritating is that I don't like to drink beer to gt a buzz. I like to drink beer because I enjoy the taste. Now I will be drinking less so I don't get the overly buzzed feeling. I'm guessing my whiskey is totally out of the picture now.

I think you're the only person I've ever heard say that they like the taste of beer. I can't say I feel your pain, since I don't drink, but there has to be a way to get the flavor, if that's all you want.

Yeah, I generally only drink hot drinks. When I wanted something cold I'd grab a cool beer.

I've replaced the coffee with hot cups of decaff tea, now I need to replace the beer with something I like cold.

Thinking about it, only drinking coffee and beer may have led me to this in the first place.

Ain't you a cheap date now?

The taste of beer? If it's good beer, I'm all for it! Had a crack up that they're pushing Shiner Bock at Whole Paycheck, I mean, Whole Foods now.

You can't beat the taste of really good beer.

Except for maybe a nice Irish whiskey.

Better becareful. Some heart meds dont mix well with alcohol. Being a heart patient for the last 7+ years I have found out the hard way.

You're a better man than me to be able to drink alcohol when you just quit smoking. I previously quit smoking for about 7 months and didn't drink a drop. The first whiskey and coke I had led me to a cigarette in about 10 minutes.

Look at it as a good thing. Less drinks to get the buzz is good. [Consider the heart and liver benefit]. It's a goal that I'm going for.

What makes it easier is that I never smoked inside the house. Want a beer? I just don't go outside with it. Now, all the BBQ's this summer will be a bitch though.

Dude,

I found that as soon as I quit smoking my tolerance went waaaaaaaay down. it's actually been backed up now and the findings are in, it's true. if you smoke and drink, you can drink more than non-smokers.

so now, my nights out end in 1 of 2 ways. I either save a couple of bucks, or I still think I can drink like I used to and get totally sloppy.

and I'm getting too old to wake up after a sloppy night all hung over - now it hurts
Cheers,

J.

DD,

My Anti-Deprssants do not mix well with alcohol. I got around the missing beer by switcing to NA beer so I could enjoy the taste again. So far all I have found is Busch, O'Doul's and Old Milwaukee in NA. Busch is my favorite ( Then again I do live in AB's home state) and OM is only good with enough TWANG beer salt.

Hope that helps.

Heh, count me as one of those who loves me some beer. But I do honestly know your pain in wanting a beer, but not wanting the alcohol as it could affect things.

Several brewers make the NA style of brew; for the American stuff, O'Doul's Dark ain't half bad. There are European made NA alternatives too, but I honestly haven't seen them since leaving the sandbox last year (but I haven't looked for them either...thank you Sam Adams and the local grocery store).

Good luck, bro, whichever way you go.

The asthmatic? Oh, the ascetic? Or, are you just aesthetic? An esthetician? Damnit, Peter, you're getting all homophonic. Again.

Seeing the world with clear eyes is what makes me want to drink in the first place...

Some time ago, I was on medication that prohibited me from drinking much more than once in a blue moon. I was a very sad Jyrdan.

But as the others have said, only needing three beers instead of *ungodly* isn't such a bad thing.

Near-beer? (non-alcoholic beer) If it's the taste you're after, this stuff may be doable for you, and you can drink as much as you like with no adverse effects

NA is the term I use though I have heard the true term is 'Small Beer'.

I've tried the non-alcoholic stuff in the past when I want the taste but without the alcohol. It takes some getting used to though since it doesn't taste quite the same. Good luck with it all. An occasional beer is my only real vice so I couldn't imagine having to give it up totally.

DD my heart goes out to you man. I'm an Okie in most things but I'M a beer & coffee snob so can feal your pain!

I know what you mean about the BBQs being a bit more painful now. I can't cook with out having a cold one in hand (& odds are a second to help the pan sauce along) & BBQ requires at least 3 or more!
