I like it cause it reminds me of the old BD&D way of Race Classes. Something I'd like to see converted or redone for C&C.
I like the idea as well, I don't want a lot of race=class, but one or two adds a bit of flavor to the setting.

I really like the idea of the High Elf, and perhapse the Eldritch Goblin as a race=class. But beyons these epic storyline characters I would keep the standard ones.

Balance would have to be maintained. No choosing Race-Class and a class
Perhaps how 3.5 has sub races, there could be subraces that are race-class, like a High Elf...

I agree, no high elf fighter or wizards. If your a high elf, thats it your a high elf, with your own skills and XP tables.

So....exactly what differentiates a high elf from a non-high elf? Do they look different from other elves? Do non-high elves aspire to *be* high elves some day? Exactly what is the *function* of a high elf?
Perhaps these race-class demi-humans haven't been "humanized", in the sense of aquiring occupations aka classes, so they remain kind of standardized.
So for instance say you made a Gnome subrace race-class that possessd Illusionist powers and some rogue ones too. Since it can't have classes (or multiclass either), that's it as opposed to a regular gnome who could become a fighter or a cleric etc...
Sue it can, but it will never reach it, at least without the aid of some very potent magic or an extremely dangerous solo quest. It would sort of be like Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, in that he has this higher goal, and is always trying to attain it, but he also knows he can't have what he wants... adds a third dimension to the character's personality.

IMC they would be quite distinctive, from the other elves. These would be the elves that fled Erde, and remained "pure", without the "taint" of humans or as Emryys put it "humanized"

I may just be a bit nostalgic here but I would like to see the revised Erde packaged like the old 1980 Greyhawk Folio. Enough detail to play but alot of space for CK's to have a nice playground.

How cool would that be?! Maybe the propsed Aihrde Primer could be sold in conjuction with a "folio." Then maybe the full release would be the mysterious Box Set... 13

Very Cool!
I've got about 3 copies of the old GH folio as my friends didn't want them way back when...

I know that if they did do Erde and later Inzae that way I would by about two or three copies. On to use and one to collect.
You know the scary part of the idea is that EGG owns the rights to the Greyhawk presented in the Gord novels. Drool over the thought that in theory Gords Greyhawk could be produced in Folio form...

you sure? I could swear that in the question and answer threads on Dragonsfoot over at ENWorld that he said he had no legal rights to publish Gord or Greyhawk without adhering to the contract he has with TSR/WOTC. These things are good reading, so maybe I should use this as an excuse to reread them.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael
Theorectically it can be done. TLG is reprinting the Gord books. Now, as far as I know they will be in their original forms.
Now, if it gets popular enough there could be a push for a world book describing Gord's world. As far as I know that type of book will still be legal and only be able to use the terms for Greyhawk that were renamed for the Gord series. ( Arachne= Lolth or in the recent Dark Chateu module Bokkab=Boccob)
I'm no lawyer but from what I have read about the agreement it's entirely possible

I believe that is a basic primer for the world of Erde. There is one or two more similiar pdf's available as free downloads at the Trolls website, one has a lot to do with the Dwarven language. I think the other has to do with the gods/religion.

Yeah, in addition to the gaz, they had the Cosmos, Dwarven language and the map of Erde PDFs! Hopefully, those downloads will be put up on the new site.

We put a bunch of free files up years ago. The Gazateer seems goofed up. It only has teh Outremer stuff. That one probably dated from the living Erde days. A group of very dedicated fans of Erde tried to get it into a Living Campaign.

I've managed to clear my plate up to this project . . . last weekend I cleaned up the some of the inconsistancies with the Twin Sisters (the Sun and Moon) caused in the Codex (poor editing on my part left a bit of confusion as to what happened to them when Unklar made war on the gods.
This weekend I'll be back in the saddle, cleaning and rewriting some of it. I will try to get an outline posted so you can see clearly what you are getting.
In the meanwhile Peter has finished the two interior maps (geographical and political) and is working on the Big Map now...pete is working on ALOT of maps lately.
Thanks,
Steve

It seems like the project you speak of Mr. Troll Lord is a lot grander then what can be put into the Aihrde "primer." Not them I'm complaining, mind you.

I've actually decided to take a little different direction on this project than I originally conceived and make it something like a more informative book than literative. I'll cut back on some of the elements of history and story for hard text. My desire is to achieve a book that can be used by those who already own the Codex and one that can be inserted into the box set without too much trouble.
Maybe something like an super index or notational bibliography . . . is that the right word? I'm far removed from history days.

The Codex suffers from two main problems, editing and lack of an index. The index was crucial and should have been about 6-7 pages long. Hopefully, as I extract and streamline material from the AWD book and the Codex the new AWD will be much better.
It is moving along nicely as well.
