Anyone on the boards play WoW?

Post by Treebore »

I am on the Alexstraza server.

Would like to see if I can team up with any of you. I've got a LVL 24 dwarf Paladin and a lvl 4 gnome Warlock.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I just started playing about a month ago. I'm on Garona and have a lvl 22 human mage and a lvl 18 dwarven hunter. I joined that server because my brother and his friends were on there already. If you decide to make a character on then let me know.

I think that you want the thread titled "Anyone on the boards not play WoW?"
I've given it a few shots and that's my wife's game of choice. My brother-in-law plays, as do several of my friends. I think that my wife and everyone else plays on runetotem. I play DDO, but I might be tempted to make a character on her account for the occasional game.

Nope, and have no desire to pay-to-play a Diablo/EverSuck rip-off.

I was waiting for your arrival here as well. You and Gideon can be the "Contrary Brothers."

I find it extremely ironic that many would bemoan the written railroad, but have absolutely no problem cashing in, regularly, for something they have absolutely no control over, and is nothing more than watching, barely participating in, someone else's script. Its like Final Fantasy X... I played that for 7 hours once, or rather, I watched it play itself for that long, every now and then pressing a button on the controller, only when it let me. Its a waste, and certainly the opposite of roleplay. And, before you say it: WoW is not free-form. Regardless of whether you can skip over preset adventures and follow your own "non-linear" path, you're wrong. :) Even NWNII is a form of pre-scripted gaming, but its more lax in style... it at least lets you make your own, and I have more respect for that.

Hey, I'm with you on it. I don't really dig the game all that much. I can play for a bout an hour before I start to yawn; maybe a little longer if I'm actually playing with some other people in a party. That's part of why I personally like DDO better. It's not anymore freeform, but I like the grouping and interaction with the environment a little better than "just kill 10 things and bring me their hides." My wife loves it though.

I used to play when it first came out. Not a bad game, I'm just not to much into computer gaming anymore.

Yeah, it's definitely no where close to being as good as table top. Heck, even the monsters are just beefed up version of what has gone before, for the most part.

I actually have more fun with my mining, Engineering, healing, cooking, and fishing skills than I do the combats.

Hey, if anyone wants to foot my bill on "Waste of Wealth" ill be happy to try it.

I just don't see any point in spending money every month on something I can do just as well with a group sitting round a table once a week. ^_~`

Actually, you do it better sitting around a table. The so called computer RPG's are a very different form of entertainment with very little RPG about them other than the trappings. Still fun. just not RPG's as far as I'm concerned.

My tastes in computer games or video games is very simple. I center a target and push a button and something goes kaboom!

Pretty much my opinion. I've played it enough to see that it never really changes, no matter where you are or what level/class you are.

I played LOTRO during Beta and for a month or so after launch. I liked it, but I don't really have a ton of time to play right now and I'd rather spend my limited amount of computer gaming time on DDO so I cancelled my LOTRO account. It's very WoW-y in the play style, but they definitely remedied some of the things that I didn't like about WoW. Very pretty game as well, and just cruising around Middle Earth is a nice treat.

Warhammer Online is shaping up to possibly being the WoW killer?

Yes, Warhammer looks cool. It should definitely appeal to those looking for a serious emphasis on PvP. My wife really likes the battlegrounds on WoW, so maybe I'll grab that for her once it comes out.

Heh, if that was berating, then you'll not want to see me when I really go into depth. :) Some people like the stuff, and are willing to blow money on things they could easily spend less than half on, enjoy longer, and actually gain some demonstrable skills from, but hey... if that's their flagpole tent raising, more power to the mindless masses! I'll be over there, where thought matters. Thanks. ;)

Doesn't matter to me anymore. I quit WoW today. Spending time gaming with my family is much more fun. Maybe when the school year starts back up I'll give it another whirl. But until then I'll spend my free time playing RPG's with my family.

That was fast!
I don't play WoW. I prefer to play a real role-playing game like C&C.

It may seem fast, but it is something I have been thinking about for days. It just finally became obvious to me today that it was "time", so I quit. At least until the school year starts, anyways.

Sold everything off, gave 6 gold to each of my kids characters, deleted my 25th lvl Paladin. Told our excellent guild why I was doing what I was doing. So done for now. Maybe for good. Time will tell.

That's what I was talking about earlier. If a thread asks, "So who here plays (online computer game name here)," then you're pretty much guaranteed that Gid and Ser will be here to mention that they don't play. It's okay homie. I ain't mad atcha.

What, you want nothing but 'attaboys'? *chuckles*

Not that I haven't tried a time or two on a friends computer. It just really did nothing for me. *smiles* I guess a lifetime of banging away with real swords just lessens the video game impact?

Probably so. I know that I can't play any of the computer rpg's too long or I start to yawn. About an hour is where I max out, and that is only about one day a week. You can't really do anything you think of like with a PnP game so doing the same repetitive task after a while gets a little stale. It's a fun time killer, but not anything in which I like to invest too much time.
