Moving to Montreal...

Post by moriarty777 »

A few days ago, the wife and I made the decision to move to Montreal.

So, the big question to those who might be in the know... aside from the Valet d'Coeur, are there any game shops I should be aware of? Addresses (or general location and landmarks) and such would be a big help...

I find that some of the Valet's prices to be a bit high on some things where as others are good. Enough of a price difference to still warrant placing various orders from the States and paying for the shipping (sadly enough).

Wish us luck!

Luck!

Seriously, moving long distances is such a hassle. I've done it too many times (PA>NH>AZ>NH>PA and the cycle is complete). Hope things go smoothly for you and you don't lose the box with all your role playing stuff in it like I did in one of the above moves (I think it was the AZ>NH one).

As far as I know, the Valet d'Coeur is the only gaming store in Montreal which offers TLG products. Their selection is very good but I can't say as much about their prices...

Good luck with the move and I hope you'll enjoy the city!

Many thanks all! A bit of luck on our end as it turns out... just yesterday we found a nice and large 2-bedroom apartment in a good area of town (near West Mount for those who know the area) at a reasonable price! We've started the application process and will hopefully get some good news in the next few days...

Good news! Application has been approved and we have an appointment to sign the lease tomorrow evening. The apartment is ours!

The apartment will be ready for us to move in on September 1st... and we're officially vacating our current lodgings in the Ottawa region by October 1st. This gives us a full month to do our move. Since this is a different city (but only a couple hours away), we'll be able to do the move gradually in steps.

Unfortunately, this may mean I'll have to abstain from certain gaming purchases till after the move is complete.
A small little sacrifice I guess.

A roof over your head to protect the books you already own is far more important than new acquisitons! Congrats! Good luck with the move!

Hehehe... very true! A solid roof to protect the existing collection is paramount.

Thank you all for the well-wishes!

Hey there!

I've been away for the longest time from these boards so I just got this post... I'm trying to catch up.

I was also moving from Motnreal... to ... eh.. Montreal ! Actually I moved from La Salle to Kirkland which is furhter west of the island of Montreal.

Anyhow... I know of one other store that does sell C&C stuff, although I don't know if they've sold much recently or if they've kept up with the stock (mostly 3e people who are interested). I got the owner there, Mike, to sell the books after I ran 6 months of games there. The store is called GAMERS WORLD and is located on Queen Mary, right off the Decarie. Here is their website...
http://www.gamersworld.ca/

They also host the monthly RPG meetups in case you are interested.

And don't forget to sign up on my own site for Montrealers...
http://www.rpgmontreal.com

I've helped form over a dozen campaigns of the 3 years it's been running. I can help you either find a game (maybe join mine???) or start one.

Hell, you have it lucky, to be blunt. I have to abstain from all rpg purchases until October of next year.

Congrats on the move!

Thanks!

In many ways, I think Montreal is really going to change my life around and be very positive! I've got a possible lead on a job... the location is nice... close to family -- all good things. As a bonus, it looks like the game store that Jynx mentioned is in my area!

Whether or not being that close to a source of temptation is a good thing is a different issue.

I'm really exited!
