I agree. I hope we can get back to friendly discourse. Any member should be able to ask questions, even if YOU think the answer has been presented.

Look at the OP, Treebore. One of the most knowledgeable posters and gamers. If he is asking the question then methinks, it's worth a thread and discussion.

Also, even Serle stepped up and was mistaken in his post.

SO, the point is, lots of room for discussion and no one needs to tell someone that their question has been answered.

And I don't believe that all the answers were in agreement with each other.

Aww shucks!!

As to this thread, I have to say I was surprised to see some of the rather negative feedback I got. Guess I have been wearing rose colored glasses when I've been coming to this website.

I hope not. I hope I just caught some people on a bad day. Or two.

Face it Treebore...

You're evil.

And not in the druidic sense...

but rather, in the anti-paladin (Lord Soth) sense.

Shame...

Also Treebore, you have admit your were extremely vehement in your demand for official clarification. This made others stringent in their defense of the opposite. Nothing more.

It's strange why emotions got so tense over this issue. Weird.

Although disagreement pervades all...

We're all C&C fans eh?

So I'd like to add a tad o' corniness to this debate, in the form of a prayre:

(please drink beer and fold your hands if able)

Hurrah pour all of us...

may we ne'er be enveloped by a lurker above,

...or by Hasbro.

may we ne'er fall for a wolf-n-sheeps-clothing,

...or gaze upon a Catoblepas.

Oh god...-or gods- may we ne'er fail to recognize a Disenchanter,

or a Rust Monster,

in any situation where armor means something.

And Boccob, Tiamat, Lloth, Odin, Indra, and etcetera...

may we ne'er decide to seperate from the rest of the party, unless we be the sole cleric.

Amen.

...and no women.

Really? I don't see where I came across that way until later in the thread. Could you show me what came across as vehement or extremely vehement, so I can be sure to avoid that. Unless it was in the section of this thread where I was getting irritated.

Well, still show me the extremely vehement parts that are in that part of the thread.

Well, since I'm an admin, I have a say, so here's my say, for what it's worth.

Treebore was 100% right in asking for clarification.

Just because C&C is rules light, doesn't mean there aren't things that need to be shored up. I can understand why some are very protective of the idea that C&C is designed for everyone to make the choice they wish, but I don't see why this is one of those cases.

I'm sure Treebore can house rule on his own, he's a veteran. That's not the point. The point is to play the way the designers intended, or at least to figure out what was intended before changing the rules. That's why people still ask EGG questions about AD&D, and why he patiently answers them, unless they are absurd.

I agree that the harsh response to the question was unwarranted, and I think that we can all get new bowls of Cheerios and get along in relative harmony.

About the 2nd page of this thread when people start talking about "obvious aspects" of the game. Because this is not a face-to-face discussion, it's hard to tell tone. My impression was that about the 2nd page you were getting irritated by the rules light argument, and with everybodies ownb argument, it made you want an answer that much more. That is my impression, and to me it seemed like your vehement defense of your position also warrented a hard decision.

No offense.

He is indeed. Which is why I checked into the matter and came back with Steve's usual confused ramble on 'clarification'.

That makes about as much sense as any discussion on gaming I've seen on many a message board.
