Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Yeah, it's kind of sad to see and icon go, but there hasn't been much interest for me in a while. I hope whatever form it comes back in is a good one.

I myself haven't been a fan of Dragon for a few years now. Still lots of good memories about it and I have been buying the last half dozen or so issues because of its write ups of various demon and devil iconics, etc...
Dungeon is the one I am going to miss most.
WOTC's electronic initiative is going to be a total failure with me. I buy PDF's, but I don't love them. I love print. I already know WOTC is going to charge more for their on line initiative then I am going to be willing to pay.
So the Dungeon/Dragon era, of 20+ years for me, is over.

Indeed! I still have to read my new one. I have only read Gary's article so far.

Yeah, I'm getting fidgety to see my copy of Pathfinder arrive next month.
One thing the whole Dragon/Dungeon thing managed to do is raise my interest in what Paizo has been doing. I've even started checking out some of their products. Not bad stuff.

It is sad to see it go but we do have the Crusader and I feel that the torch is being passed from the old guard to the Trolls and C&C more and more.

It makes me glum to think of the end of Dragon. I'm glad that they went with Elmore for the last cover - looking at the preview, it will be a fitting piece of art for the end.
Even though I haven't played 3e in a very long time, I have to say that I've enjoyed Dragon in the last year or so. It went through a really terrible patch (I'm thinking the time when every cover was just a close-up of someone with their mouth open, with no background at all - I still think that they zoom in and crop the art on their covers too much), but I think that they made a concerted effort to pull out of the tailspin.

anyone have a table of contents for the last issue? I haven't taken Dragon in many years (more than 20), but am tempted to get the last one just out of loyalty to the concept. What's inside it these days?

I can't say I'll miss it, seeing as I own, I think, 5 issues total, and all of those were given to me (I do have #1-250 in pdf, though) and I haven't even read the ones I do have (I've read parts of some, but never all of any of them.)
From a "historical view" it sucks to see an icon of the RPG die, but from a practical stance: it doesn't bother me at all.

The biggest thing I am going to miss about Dungeon is taking apart the adventures, even from various issues, and rearrange maps, NPC's, plot ideas, etc... into totally new adventures with elements stolen from a half dozen to a dozen adventures from about the same number of issues.
I love doing that, and now that I am really into C&C I am even more upset that my collection got burned up, since I didn't start doing this little "game" until after 3E started. I would have about another 50 issues to play with like that.
Guess, when I am in the mood, I'll just have to see how it works with all the modules I have.

I, for one, am sorry to see both Dungeon and Dragon go.
Memories of youth and all of that. Plus, they were a very welcome read while I was deployed.
Sigh.
My greatest disappointment comes from the lack/loss of all that material once its all said and done; we'll probably never see a CD compilation of that stuff like we did before (and I'll never, ever forgive myself for not getting it while I could).
