Ravenloft (I6) C&C style!

Post by Treebore »

Plus done "Treebore style"!

I am running this in October (close to or on Halloween, of course) for my kids, and several of my Skype players/friends are also signing on.

If enough are interested I am willing to run this several times (I really love running this module).

So, for every 6 people who commit to playing, I will run an additional game, max of 3 game groups, though.

Several things I better tell you about how I do (I6) before you sign up. I have ran 10 or 11 groups through this module. It has become a "living" module for me.

What does "living" mean? For me it means that Ravenloft has not stayed static, it is dynamic. You will be teams 11, 12, and 13. Ravenloft is effected by the groups who go there. Strahd grows more powerful and accumulates more treasure and minions as each group fails. Strahd has gained the XP's for defeating each group.

So far no group has succeeded in defeating Strahd and only 1 character even survived. You'll meet him at the church in town.

So if you are still interested in trying to defeat Strahd roll up a character, standard classes, standard C&C races.

These are your stats, arrange as you desire: 18, 17, 17, 15, 14, 13. Modify by race.

I have yet to determine how much Gold I will allow for equiping your characters from the M&T only. Probably in the 100,000 to 150,000 GP range. (90,000 GP, nothing better than +3, Monsters and Treasures items only)

9th level PC's.

Fighter types have 75 HP + CON bonus. (Barbarians are 84 HP)

Cleric types have 54+ CON

D6 has 45 + CON

D4 has 27 + CON

Strahd is smart. Strahd is powerful. Strahd is on home ground.

You will, in all liklihood, die.

If you have the courage, join the fight.

edit: GAME DAYS AND TIMES

When you post your interest also tell me what days/nights and time frames will work best for you. Also let me know what time zones you are in. I am Pacific time zone. Yes, days and nights can work for me, if the group reaches at least 4 players in size.

Hopefully everything will come together.

You'll also need to download SKYPe and make sure you have headphones/speakers by game time in October. SKYPE is free. So only download the free version, not the phone calling thing that costs like $25.00.

When you start up SKYPE put in my SKYPE ID as a contact: treebore.therubylord

So SIGN UP!!

Edit number 2: I know this sounds like I am a "killer DM", and by many peoples definition I do run this "killer". I am not going to play Strahd stupid. I am not going to "let" you win. If you win, or survive, its going to be because you know you out thought and out fought Strahd. You will have truly earned it. So if you do live, and especially win, you will have true bragging rights

You will not win this because I let you. You'll live or die because you really pulled it off or failed. The dice screwed you, whatever.

You will not die because I set everything up for you to die. Strahd has his defenses in place due to his experiences. Which is why I run him "dynamic" instead of static. He has learned from the previous ten (or 11) groups who have tried to kill him.

So if you defeat Strahd you will have succeeded where 73 players/PC's have failed. The treasure is sickeningly rich (treasure of 73 7th to 9th level characters). Of course that part would only really matter if we went in with "real characters" built up over the course of a campaign. Plus the treasures in the module are pretty cool to.

So if you want to play in a game where you KNOW your player "smarts" and plain luck are tested to the limits, sign up. Custom build it for fighting Baron Strahd Von Zarovich, and see if your team can pull it off.

Since team 11 will surely slay the evil Strahd, and all his foul minions, teams 12 and on will find naught but an empty fog bound castle, I am afraid.

Thats easy to do. My Monday group has the Monday time slot.
Finding nights the group can play is what I see as the greatest hurdle for this game to leap.

Hopefully by planning this far in advance that hurdle can be overcome.

Fortunately, I am usually able to be very flexible about game nights. My wife has already OKed it. She even looked tempted to play.

Well, teams 11, 12, and 13 won't see the effects/results of the other teams in these sessions. Teams 14, 15, and 16 in October of '08 will.

90,000 Gold to equip yourself with. Stuff from M&T only. No more than 5 of any one magic item (I am thinking potions, scrolls, and wands here.) Nothing over +3 in enchantment.

Don't do anything to make me enforce the encumbrance rules.

Setting: Ravenloft. Not that it really matters, since I am going to arbitrarily start you off having just "entered" Barovia. Why? Your here to hunt vampires.

So equip accordingly.

*phew*. My Holy Avenger is +2. Then again, it would use up more than half of my money.

Would it be terribly wrong of a paladin to extort extra money from the villagers to buy some nice shiny armour?

Hmmm, this sounds interseting. If its only for a few sessions I might actually be able to sign up for this.

I'll have to look at my October work schedule and see what nights you'll be running this.

I haven't "named" any nights because any night can work for me. I don't want to say that group two is Tues, and group 3 is Sat, then have people not inquire because they think those nights are in stone.

So I want people to say they are interested, then find out what nights (even days) can work for the most, preferably all, people interested.

So I guess I should ask for those interested to say what nights, or days, can work for them, and what time frames.

I would be good Monday through Friday nights. Most preferable is Wed - Fri.

Time: 7:00pm - 12:00 pm.

On Thursdays and Fridays, I could even do 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

All times are eastern.

Those times are defintely good for me, so hopefully we'll get at least a total of 4 good for similiar time frames.

I'd definitely be interested as well. Any week night is good for me, though I normally don't get home until 6:15 or so Central time. Weekends are fine, as long as it doesn't interfere with Rigon's game. I'll also be unavailable Nov 8-11 (if we live that long) as I'll be at Con on the Cob in Akron.

It can. We'll probably use maptool. For very, very rough maps.

I would definatley be interested if you are willing to put up with someone learning the ropes (of c&c that is, ive been playing and DMing AD&D 2nd ed and WoD games for over 10 years)

Of course it depends on the schedule, it would probly have to start at 9PM EST (preferably on weekends, but I can swing a weeknight if need be, I can go to work half zombified from lack of sleep once in a while

I'm definitely interested, but like most things the schedule will drive my availability. I'm East Coast time, and Monday nights are probably best for me.

Monday night is already full.

I'll ask if someone from the Monday night group would like to switch if Monday is the only possibility for you.

As for newbies, if you can add numbers to your D20 roll, you'll do fine.

i'd also like to give it a try but I'll have to see if my unit has any training going on.

Also I've never gamed over the et or used "SKYPE" so I'll need help getting that up & running.

Download SKYPE:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/s ... ading.html

Make sure you have a mic and speakers, or headset with mic.

Got to Tools folder, click on "add contact" and type in treebore.therubylord

Then tell me here when you want to do a test, and when you see that thing to the left of my ID green call me.

So that is one group of six, and one group of five, if everyones schedules can match up. 7 slots left.

Treebore, do we (the Monday night crew) use the same stats and info for our characters as the other gruops? I'm starting to kick around some ideas.

Yes, I want to make sure everyone has exceptionally good stats and HP, which is why I am "assigning" them. You need them for this module.

One "trick" I think may help the party survive, and win, is to buy wands. Or scrolls. For Fireballs, for healing, for restoration, etc... You will need a LOT of spells.

Hmmm. I'll probably regret giving that bit of insight.

As we discussed in my other thread, Treebore, I would love take part in one of your groups.

I'm in Pacific Time here myself, and available mostly weekday nights from about 7 p.m. to whenever. New to C&C, tabletop roleplaying in general, Ravenloft, and SKYPE, but I would love to have a chance to learn and play.

Haha, no you won't. It may prolong our deaths, but methinks you're not telling us anything, that we don't already know. Perhaps, the only insight is . . . spend all gold on the above items and forget about food, clothing, shelter, wine, tobacco or any other "earthly" and "for pleasure and personal use" equipment.

Aside:

I did play a Battle Sorcerer last year in a Ravenloft game, and I think we need to hire a team of them as henchmen!!!

I'd definitely be interested in this. I'm available at any time, though weeknights are probably best. I've never used SKYPE, but I'm sure I'll be able to figure that out.

As for characters, I'm best as either a Fighter-type, Cleric, or Wizard.

Treebore,

some questions

1. are there still spots?

2. what kind of time commitment are you looking for? 4 hrs/week? more? less?

3. Does skype have a high learning curve? i've never gamed online before

1. Right now, with you, there is enough to fill two groups of 6. I am willing to do a thrid group, either due to a need for a third time slot due to scheduling needs, or becase there are enought to justify 3 groups (IE 12 to 18 people sign up.

2A. 3 hour time slots seem best, but if the group can go 4 hours, we will.

2B. Time commitment? Depends on how long your group survives. Winning can happen very early, or take 8 to 10 hours of total play. TPK can happen at almost any time once your inside the castle.

3. SKYPE is pretty easy. Look for the post earlier in this thread giving the download link, my SKYPE ID, etc...

I'll definitely want to do "test runs" on SKYPE before the offical start date.
