Any Horseclans fans here?

The Horseclans, by Robert Adams

I'm a proud owner of all 18 original paperbacks (with the Ken Kelly covers!), and I regard the Horseclans books as some of the best action-oriented, militaristic Sci-Fi/Fantasy that I've ever read.

However, I've never met more than a handful of other people who've read the books, or even heard of them. Am I the only one here?

What does "Bili the AXE RULEZ!!" tell you?

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Man, I loved those books. I used to have all of them, but I don't know what happened to them; they may be in my parent's attic.

I loved his Castaways in Time series, too.

(There's a GURPS Horseclans sourcebook, but I don't have it.)

I think I had the first 14. Maybe more. I loved them. Of course, I was 15 at the time.
Bili was okay, but Milo was THE MAN.

(And I still close one eye when going from a light room to a dark and vice versa.)

Oh hells yes. I love the Horseclans series. A major influence on all my games, really, but most especially the PA games, of course. My copies of all 18 books (plus the two short story anthologies) sit on the shelf right next to ERB's John Carter series and right above my David Gemmell shelf.

There is a STRONG Ehleen influence in the character of the High Viridians in the Wilderlands of High Adventure; you get only a taste of that in the Tell Qa book, as the High Viridian presence in the town is small and influence is weak (many High Viridians in Tell Qa are actually expats from the CSWE, exiled for political and similar indiscretions).

I'd love to publish a Horseclans RPG; it would just be too expensive at this time...

Hmm. That is an interesting parallel, one I'll have to explore.

I've been toying with making the High Viridians elves, akin to the Draegarans in Brust's Vlad series, and thus Common Viridians become half-elves (and doing the same for some other select groups like the Orichalans and Valonians & Common Orichalans & Valonians). But for the Viridians, the Ehleen culture fits quite nicely.

I read a few, but they were a bit too "gritty" or adult or something. I lost interest. I have the first five, though. I like the idea for the world it takes place in.

I own the whole set (plus the GURPS Horseclans book) but must confess that I never made it through the whole series. Somehow I always got sidetracked, then time would pass so I would start the series over, and again never make it through 18 books before I got sidetracked again....

Hey, it's the story of my life.

Any time a new book comes out I always want to re-read a series from the start but I never get through it all so I have all of these unread books that look really good on my shelf.
It's a curse.
By the way -- I have the entire series in paperback but was looking to find them in a text doc becasue the print in the paperbacks is kind of small. (Darned poor vision and tired eyes make them hard to read. ) I have found something called a "torrent" where they claim you can download some of this stuff, but I have no idea what a torrent is and don't seem to be having luck downloading. Porject Gutenburg doesn't seem to have them, either. Anyone know where I can find these online?
