Book of Familiars
Mrs.Charlie's favorite classes to play are usually/always ones that have familiars or animal companions. I'm thinking the Book of Familiars will help out our game ,mostly to introduce variety. I need variety in this regard
How much of this book is campaign specific? I noticed in the features column we have rituals for Erde and maybe a few classes for locals of that world. I've got a well established world already (the Known World/Mystara). I need a resource like this to broaden the options on Familiars and stuff.
BTW, is Aihrde and Erde pronounced the same?

The book is completely campaign neutral. Even the stuff for Erde can be used in Mystara, its just used by a specific cult or group of people.
Not sure on the pronunciation. I say Erde like Errday, and I say the other like Airday. I don't know the "official" pronunciations.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

The book of Familiars is very cool. I was actually quite surprised at it's usefulness to me, based on the fact it is a very 3rd edition kind of book. Although, much would need to be converted, I think the Book of Familiars serves as a great way to introduce a lot of ideas to the C&C game that are not really present at present.
If you're looking for a d20 fantasy book on familiars, and you play that kind of game, then there is no better book on the subject IMO.

I have to completely agree... I had asked about some general opinions on this book here a month or two ago which was all positive. I decided to get a copy of the book and I was floored at the amount of stuff in it. It is truly a fantastic source and the only one you'll ever need on the subject.
It is d20 but I'm sure you'll figure out how to adapt some of the stuff in the book for use.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to go through my LGS to order it.
Converting d20 to C&C hasn't been so hard yet. You basically don't have to add anything, just cut out all the gunk, viola', your done. The only (trivial) issue for me so far is XP. But this is mostly due to how close I want to get to copying one set over, and I don't know how much I want to do that. Besides ,Familiars don't have XP values; they are built into the XP value of their owner.
I do value getting d20 books because they made everything along the same set-up that characters had to be done with. So it is really easy to see how they made what and who. Detail monkeys, like me

Thanks for the positive remarks on Book of Familiars. Charlie Rock, hope Mrs. CharlieRock enjoys the hell out of the stuff in there!
It was a great product to work on, it just didn't catch on as well as we woulda liked at the time it was relased. Too bad because the Danial Horne cover art is pretty awesome as well.
As I pointed out to Steve at Gen con... we shoulda put "Familiars for Every Class" on the cover instead of on the back.
Ah well live and learn! We all know better now!

I vaguely recall someone mentioning something like this but that's now going back a year or two...
I'd be more than willing to do any sort of official conversion material for the Trolls if they are ever looking for volunteers.

Might be a good section to pull out of there and add to the CKG or a later print of the PHB.

And serleran is right about one thing, the animals that are described in the BoF is very good. This would be a magnificent thing to add to the PHB (for familiars) or even the M&T (with familiar notes).

Hell, there is easily enough material to make it it's own book. However, if we were to add it in someplace... I'd suggest the M&T2 book!

Re: Book of Familiars
It's on the projects list. That's pretty much all I know at this point.
