Number one beginners adventure (C&C or D&D)? Something the PCs can live through and have fun with.

Try Rising Knight which is a good, and free, adventure.

In my opinion, if you run Rising Knight unmodified, it's a death wish for most level 1 PC parties.

I'd recommend Beacon at Enon Tor as the PCs should have a higher chance of success. Role play out the town intro if you feel the need to add role play goodness.

B4 The Lost City (check out my campaign journal)

B2 Keep on the Borderlands

Beacon at Enon Tor is an excellent first adventure, too.

I agree. Run unmodified and unobjectively, this is a tough module and quite likely to kill some folks. I'd go Becon Tor.

I believe Beacon is a download at Dragonsfoot, not TLG. Just in case you didn't know where to get it.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

The Beacon at Enon Tor is an excellent first adventure. It's relatively easy so PCs shouldn't get killed and the players can get a safe introduction to how combat mechanics work. I think an experienced group of players would be bored with it, but it's great for newbies.
