Known Realms

Post by bulletmeat »

I just started with a new D&D group and we are discussing me CKing C&C. I've was wondering about getting the DCC #35 from Goodman. Might I ask what selling point would one use to describe this setting (over GH, FR, or DL).

Over the others? Nothing really makes it better than the others, its different. If you have the others, and like them, run whichever one appeals to you.

If you want to know if the DCC is worth getting? Yes, I do think it is.

Now if you collect the DCC's then its also worth getting because of the fact that they have based all the DCC's around the world and are marked on the map (Dcc 1 thru 34, later DCC's tell you where they are located).

So that is probably its most distinctive selling point.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I'm not so sure it's different then other settings all that much. Honestly, DCCWorld is pretty complete for the amount of money you pay. However, to me, it seems like mixture of MYSTARA and FORGOTTEN REALMS (weighted towards Mystara). The amount of maps you get is a neat feature for sure (4 or 5 poster sized maps).

I like DCC 35 quite a bit, although unlike a few other settings, it didn't scream "run me". I use it more for idea mining. Its a good setting, and (obviously) fits nicely with the DCC modules (although most can fit anywhere).

It struck me that the scale on Aereth is pretty damn big - much bigger tham most other settings I'm familiar with.

Ahhh. I'm trying to find a more basic world (don't know enough about FR) and like the older Mystara world (but they didn't want to do that). This may be it.
Might I just inquire if it is as split up as Mystara (very different cultures placed together)?

The most distinctly flavored culture is the snake one. Very MAztica in flavor, but much better done as far as I am concerned. Others are distinctive, and I think this aspect is why it reminds so many of us of Mystara.

Late poster alert!

I would recommend DCC-World. It has really nice maps. A players and GM guidebooks. Two modules (just a smidge of modification and ready for C&C), one is for level zero characters.

Hint to modify level zero character play to C&C SIEGE. Make them as regular, but don't give them any gear or money. Can't get an easier system then that. (The module gives them the bare essentials they will need.)

Very nice stuff, Maynard.

Agreed - the two cultural elements that stuck out as the most distinct were the south american-esque one and the colonial/caribbean/pirate one.

Not that I'm knocking the more traditional fantasy parts, mind you. Those are cool, too.
