Anyone who plays on line with me...

Post by Treebore »

Download OpenRPG v1.7

Realize this will involve 3 downloads. If you do not do two downloads before you download Open RPG itself you missed something, so read their directions fully.

then, once you do all th eupdates, open the program and go to "Browse Servers".

Find "OpenRPG Veav I"

Then find "Treebore's World"

join it. Password is "TreeboreI6"

Monday Group, I'll want to test this out with all of you Monday.

Great find, Treebore.

I think the files to download you are talking about are found here

The clever thing about this one, it seems, is we are using someone else's server, so it gets around your "router" problem. The bad side is, if their server goes down, we may be out of luck

Looks good though

I logged on (I think) and rolled a few dice etc., so it seemed to work

Yep. Thats the link. Be sure to follow all 4 Steps. It offers a long list of servers, so hopefully all of them won't go down at once.

Even on the occasion that OpenRPG Veav I does go down, it tends to be back up within minutes.

Apparently Treebore's World only stays active while I have it open. So just do the installs, when its time to play we can create our "room".

Nope. We gave up on getting it to work on my friend's computer and switched to a combination of Skype text-chat and Gametable. Our first session has always been planned for the 29th as well, which is in two weeks.

Hmmm. It seems to work for me on two of my computers, and Aramis was also able to sign in. Hopefully it will keep working well for everyone else.

Well, I've downloaded and installed all the files in order and had OpenRPG running, but we'll have to wait and see if it works right.

Will this be for the October Ravenloft games too?

I used OPenRPG years ago. Didn't seem like too bad a platform. There was another one that I used to use as well, that I actually preferred but for the life of me I can't recall the name of it. It had a wooden shield in it's icon though.

I always just used plain text blocks for OpenRPG. C&C is simple enough that you don't need to apply the advanced features of OpenRPG to it.

Ok Treebore - I cant really do the map pieces- buif you make a map and email it to me I can do all the rest - Ill then email it back to you

It will need to be posted online somewhere so that it can be used online.

I chatted with some of the people on Openrpg and tried it out.

Some pointers if you want to try it on your own... 60pixels is equivalent to the average map square.

you can save it as a gif, png or jpeg I believie.

When you say "make a map" you mean from scratch? IE nothing that uses the stuff we talked about?

Hey Robert. I got everything working with OpenRPG on my end, played around with it for awhile, but couldn't see your room you created. Like you said, u probably need to be on it for it to start open. Dice n stuff worked fine. I am ready to do a testing, I guess with the Friday group whenever you say.

Downloaded everything and it seems to work just fine. We're in good shape for Ravenloft (until Strahd gets a hold of me).

I forgot that I attached a 2nd monitor to my computer and so can have an OpenRPG screen/map on 1 monitor and then have SKYPE and other stuff open on the 2nd monitor. Not so much clicking around and such.

I created a fairly simple character sheet for OpenRPG if anyone wants to take a look at it

its hosted here
http://www.mediafire.com/?10nphlotedd

The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to set the size of the window it opens in to fit all the info (of course you can always make the window bigger yourself) Also I added a Macro Tab to it If you want to add a macro to the list its pretty easy

Expand the C&C Character Sheet (click the little plus beside it), right click on tabber and select design. Make the window large enough that you can see all 6 tabs (Char info, Combat info, Money and Treasure, Equipment, Notes, And Macros)

Click on the Macros Tab

Click Add

In the box type in the die roll you want in square brackets (you can also add text before or after the die roll)

ex.

[1d20] will roll 1d20

[1d20+10] will roll 1d20 +10

Longsword +2 [1d20+13] will say "longsword +2" and roll 1d20+13

The square brackets are important, anything between them will be counted as a die roll and anything outside will not

ex

[1d20]+2 will give a result like this

[1d20] => [10] = (10)+2

where as [1d20+2] will give this

[1d20] => [10, 2] = (12)

Also, Treebore, I'm not sure if you know this, but if you type the same codes as I described above in the chat line you it will roll for you, useless most of the time (using the buttons is easier) BUT, if you need to generate a weird random number (like, say 1-22) you can type in [1d22] and it will roll it for you

Anyways If I missed anything let me know and Ill edit it
