Absolutely Amazed with TLG Products

Post by Piperdog »

My middle-aged quest to recapture the gaming days of my youth eluded me in the mire of 3.x; I stumbled upon, as if by divine providence, C&C only a couple of months ago. I now own the manuals, yggsburg, east march folio, the Airhde folio, a1-3, I1-3, and db1-3. I have been like a kid at Christmas! I have been literally overwhelmed at the depth of the material, the awsome storylines, and the overall feel of the setting and modules. That is the hard part to explain to a friend in gaming...the feel.

It has that immersive magic that eludes me in the other game systems and settings. I love the writing of the modules and style. I just can't decide where to start our group. I am leaning on Vahkund, but jeez, they are all awsome. Now, I have become very much like a Crusader, preaching the Gospel of TLG to all the heathen gamers out there, forcing conversion at swordpoint.

Welcome to the Crusade! More than a few people on these boards have commented and will agree about that 'old school' feel you're talking about.

If you weren't aware of them, be sure to grab some of the freebies as well:

A mighty Crusader you now are. You own the tomes, you have the knowledge. Let your imagination fly and you will know glory. Welcome again, Sir PIperdog. We look forward to hearing your tales.

Welcome, Piper! Glad to hear you're already having so much fun. Moriarty's links are great. I'd start with "Beacon" and go from there.

Great post there, PIperdog. The Trolls have and continue to put out great gaming material. From the core books to the modules to the GFW to the Word of Aihrde and more.

I'll recommend starting with The Rising Knight - A0. It's what completely sold me on Castles & Crusades when I bought the Collector's box back in '04!

Welcome!

The thing that got me hooked on C&C was the first time I saw the PHB, it made me feel like I was 10 years old again looking through the 1E AD&D PHB-there was a true sense of wonder and excitement-something lacking in modern RPGs that spell everything out for you and hog tie you with a rule for everything. C&C put me back in control of my game as a CK/DM and I love it.

Don't forget to sack Constantinople while you're at it!

No, no, no. Don't make THAT mistake. Be friendly to Constantinople; sack and hold Damascus, instead. Holding the coastal cities and Jerusalem is fine, but if you don't hold Damascus, too, your enemies can still move entire armies around the Levant with impunity.
