SIEGE, strongest RPG system
I was just messing around converting stuff across the different editions and alterations of a multitude of fantasy RPG systems and the thought struck me:
It is easier to SIEGE other systems then the other way around. Basically, for me, it is best to take something from C&C and put it into D&D/AD&D all the way to d20.
Try it and see; convert something from D&D3 into C&C (not too hard to do) then convert it again into CD&D or AD&D. Then convert something similar without using C&C as a 'bridge'. It gets harder for me to do. This even seems so if taking something from CD&D to D&D3. It gets easier with a 'bridge' across C&C.
Why am I doing these kinds of things. A new player to our team brings a AD&D2 Monstrous Compendium with more monsters then in my monster manuals (any edition). He asks me to use them in our game. So just to make sure I was doing things as close to original design as possible I started comparing monsters across all the games. This is when I noticed it is easier to 'lay SIEGE to another system'.

Yep. I not only take stuff from any edition of D&D, but Paladium and GURPS, and even Traveller.
Essentially, if its D20/percentile based its easy to convert.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

In answer to Antonio: the idea involved slightly different numbers and a little bit different execution, but the SIEGE Engine is pretty much the same, only more "defined." Some have said it was the impetus for the creation of the SIEGE Engine, because it did not work "right" for "everything," but, I obviously disagree, as did several of the original developers... in the end, and after 4 near-releases (using the original concept,) the SIEGE Engine won out, primarily due to the slightly better wording of how it works. And, I think it made people feel a little more comfortable...
I can't go into it more since its still covered by a NDA.
Heh. Its the one thing I pride myself on. Well, that and M&T. Heh.

Yes, the Siege system is darn muscular, even if I've toed the line for the most part. I'd like to try to push it a little further with my next campaign.
Treebore, dare I ask what you've yoinked from Traveller?
I wrote up a SIEGE mechanic that worked with a combo of the numbers given in Megatraveller with some armor values and weapon values used from T20.
Haven't played it yet, but I think the numbers are pretty solid.
Still, looking forward to StarSIEGE.

It's long been my contention that one of the requirements for excellence be the absolute avoidance of confusion, obfuscation and overcomplication...all of which are sins attributable to certain other gaming systems with which I trust we are all familiar (and yes, I'm talking about Snakes and Ladders here - thirty-five years later and I still can't figure the damn thing out). The SEIGE engine has been a remarkable triumph of substance over slickness and bloated production values. To the designers and developers of this remarkable work: Salud.

I believe it does....but I don't know the entire acronym. I believe the first S is Standard, and the GE is Gaming Engine.
Then again, I could be full of crap.
I remember Serleran's version, as it was in the earliest playtest model. It worked quite well, but it was a little unusual at first. For a good analogy, it was kind of like "lower is better" for armor class: it works well and has some strong points in its favor, but most people like to count upwards.
(Disclaimer: the system didn't work "lower is better." This is just an analogy. )
