Hello all -- I'm a longtime gamer who ran many an AD&D session back in highschool/college days, along with a smattering of other RPGs. I was always the DM/GM and ran the show. Really had a good crew for a number of years. After marriage, kids, etc., didn't get to roleplay much.
However, my two sons are now of the age and interested (12yo and 9yo) along with a nephew who just returned from Army training. So we got the makings of another crew of various ages (from 9yo to 40).
I was disappointed in the direction AD&D went, just got too convoluted. After a fairly extensive internet search of RPGs that have a good system but not too complicated so as to not discourage the younger players, I stumbled across C&C.
This game sounds like it hearkens back to the "glory days" of AD&D -- back to 1st and 2nd edition. Different system, of course, but same feel, from what I've gathered by reading some posts and testimonials.
I'm curious what the forum visitors--CKs and players alike have to say about C&C. I'm sure most if not all will sing its praises, otherwise why would you lurk in the forum? Are there particular things I should look out for, either with anticipation (like the upcoming CK Guide) or to be wary off (any pitfalls/problems to avoid)?
Any advice, suggestions, testimonials, warnings, are encouraged and I will be very grateful for your input. C&C looks pretty good, I'd like to get a new campaign set up soon. I've ordered the PHB, M&T, plus the I1-I3 modules for starters. If all goes well I'll be checking out some more modules, designing my own scenarios, etc., like I used to do way back when.
Thanks!
Greetings from Southern California

Greetings and welcome, Alcahealas! Glad to have you with us.
With the PH and M&T and the couple of mods, you'll have everything you need to run the game completely. Contained in the PH is a CK section that pretty much gives you everything you need.
The CKG will only be an optional book of rules, ideas, and loads of other interesting stuff that I can't think of right now.
Oh and for testimonials, here's a link to the TLG site, to a write-up we put together last year which was spearheaded by Treebore. It contains comments from some of the CKs here about C&C:

Thanks to both of you. I did read the testimonial page (Why Play C&C?), that was a deciding factor for me buying the C&C system to run my new campaign. I DM'd for some 10 years with the old AD&D system so I should be able to fall right into place with C&C (from what I've read).
I'm so stoke--the EGG answered one of my questions! What a cool experience, getting a direct response from the man himself, a guy who designed such a killer roleplaying game that took me and my close friends on a 10 year journey through some helations adventures, triumphs and tragedies. I'm humbled and elated.
I'm sure I'll have questions and comments to post as the days go buy--I'll make sure to drop them in the right categories.
Thanks again!
