C&C in the Wild West! (Finished)

Post by Aramis »

Wanted!

4-6 Varmints eager for some claim jumpin', rootin' tootin', six gun shootin' fun

It's the Castles and Crusades system but in the Wild West

Using the "Go For Your Gun" adaptation of C&C (no one needs to buy it to play. I have it.) we will explore the sleepy town of Dead Mule. It's not much of a town, but it does offer one simple attraction:

Gold!

And lots of it. Or so you heard from a man in a bar one night. That night is mostly a blur, but you remember something about chunks of ore as big as your fist.

When has something you vaguely remembered from a drunken evening in an anonymous bar ever steered you wrong before?

Alright....well this time will be different. You are sure of it. Besides, gold nuggets the size of your fist sounds good to you, being broke and all, and so you hop on the nearest stage coach to find out for yourself

*** * * ***

The game is open ended with a number of mini-scenarios. I have no idea how long any of them will take to resolve, as I have never run this game or module before. I would assume it will take a few sessions, rather like Treebore's Ravenloft game (except fewer vampires)

Please only sign up if you plan on playing in all of the (probably) multiple sessions (3 or 4 sessions? I have no idea)

Nights are fairly open. I would propose Thursday as the night, provisionally. We can move it to the weekend if that works better for everyone

Time is 6-9 PST. 9-12 EST. I can go later but not earlier (except on weekends).

If we get enough sign ups, we may start this Thursday (Nov 8). Or we can wait a week if people need lead time.

We will try to use a combination of Skype (voice chat) and OpenRPG (an onscreen map with miniatures, chat window, and a dice roller)

Characters will be premade by me for simplicity sake, but we will adapt them to suit the player

Sign up now!

(You don't want to be stuck playing Timmy "The Cross-Eyed Kid" MacGoo)

Sounds like fun! I've never done a western before. If I wasn't committed to my sons Wed. game I would give it a try.

Love to have you Treebore, as well as the other Treeborean rascals.

Like I said, the day is open to debate. And of course, the Monday Night Irregulars have first dibs.

This does bring up a good point though, I was unclear when everyone's games are. Isn't Bran's game Fridays? Or is he doing two games?

Anyway, I can probably move it to Th/Fri/or Sat Night depending on the (many, many) eager responses that come in

Sounds interesting, but Wed is my regular poker night.

Alright, Wednesday is officially kaput! We will determine the day as people come in.

Please post whether you are in, and what days work for you

Id be down for Fridays. Ive always wanted to run an Old West RPG, but my group of players were never into it so, it never took off.

But Id love to saddle up and git into the Rootin' Tootin' Action

You said group size is 6? If Nwelte is interested, and Wulfgarn's daughter is interested, maybe Friday can work, and if it does, with Spakman, that will give you 6 players right there.

Me, Titania, Clemson, Spak, nwelte, and Wulfgarn's daughter. Who, according to my kids, is a very sharp player.

We'll have to talk about it Friday.

Sounds good, Treebore. The group of six was just a general idea. Could be less.

I don't know how interesting it would be to a really young kid. Bran and Titania seem pretty sharp, but I think it might be easier for a kid to get in the minset of a wizard or thief than to get in the mindset of a gunslinger, or saloon gambler

We shall see what everyone says.

Like you suggested, another alternative is to run it as a multi session vacation from our regular Monday campaign

If you need players and/or this starts NEXT Thursday (11/15), I'd love to play. Otherwise, have fun, you sidewindin' varmits! Git!

That's the spirit!

It sounds like there are more people coalescing around Friday, as that has a group that might be taking a bit of a break. We shall have to see.

There was also some talk of slipping into the Monday Irregulars' schedule, to give Treebore a break from DMing. I think the loss of Strahd really got to him.
However, I won't start until I get a commitment from at least 4 players for whatever evening we do it, so next week start might be the way to go, rather than this week.

Cool deal. If you have space and start next week, count me in. I'm free pretty much any weeknight.

Sounds good. So you can play Thursday or Fridays, for a few weeks in a row, just not this week?

We have space. You and Spakman would make two. And then maybe Treebore, Bran, Titania, and some of the other Friday group would want in.

Maybe even the fabled Rhuvein might want in. Some have whispered his name, is he just a myth? We shall see

BTW- anyone who wants some inspirational viewing in preparation for the adventure should watch either:

Tombstone

or

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

You cannot watch those movies and _not_ want to immediately head into some dusty hamlet and start slinging lead, and punching cowpokes

Do any of the female gunslingers look like Cher? If so, that might persuade Rhu
I'm good either Thurs or Friday for a few weeks (though I assume that Thanksgiving will screw up one of the Thursdays for most folks). I'm going to be out of town Thurs-Sunday this week, visiting the lovely and exciting West-Texas town of Lubbock. Otherwise I'd be on board immediately.

The tumble weeds and feed lots will put me in the right mindset.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Lubbock?

There is a restaurant there that has some very awesome steaks.

Wish I could remember the name, but locals will be able to tell you. Its how I found it anyways.

MMMmmm. Steak.

My girlie-friend is a senior at Texas Tech. The gal loves a good steak, so maybe she'll know the place. I've only been up there a couple of times since we started dating. It's so much better when she's home here in San Antonio
Then again, I can game with total impunity when she's 400 miles away.

BTW, what the heck is "Go For Your Gun"? Is it home brew, or a TLG product? It sounds interesting.

Simon W (Washburne?) did some conversions from C&C to make the game. He posted some of his stuff on the old Keeper's Den a while back and it was top notch material.

So now, he's selling his games for a reasonable price.

I'm too tired now or I would post a link. But if no one does, I'll get one up tomorrow.

Here ya go jaybird216. The pdf download is here . The free demo (with a write up of only the first 2 classes, the brave and the drifter) is here

Please note, no player is obliged to buy these rules or even to really be familiar with them. All we need is basic familiarity with C&C type mechanics, and an enthusiastic appreciation of Sergio Leone movies.

Second, I have houseruled some areas. Specifically, I have made the combat more fiddly, to better reflect the combat rules of the old TSR game Boot Hill. We may hurriedly house rule some of these house rules after we see how they play in practice. New rule: first gun fight is just for pretend
I will either post or PM to all participants the house rules document, as well as a complete character sheet based on the choices of character people choose

Glad to have you in the game jaybird216

Glad to have you if you are interested Rhuvein.

As I understand it, jaybird can play Thursday or Friday starting next week, Treebore was thinking of having this stand in for Bran's Friday game but he has not definitively said if the Treeborean Clan are in.

I am not sure if spak man can only play friday, or he just prefers that day.

Keep those guns loaded!

Thanks for the tip, Emryys. I think I bought that at a local game store sale.

However, in my unmitigated arrogance, I have already houseruled the game a bit, and I have never even played or DMed it! I better leave the classes as is at the outset.

It might actually be good to have another person to catch me in my many mistakes. Although, most of those will probably of the "applying the siege engine" variety at first.

It is a short (46 pages) pdf, but it gets a lot of work done in there. And the classes are pretty nifty.

All in all, a good job by Simon W.

I just believe in supporting an artist in his work. Plus, it looks well thought-out and a lot of fun. Definitely something I'd like to own and play. I remember designing a Wild West game as a teen, after having watched the whole Lonesome Dove mini series when it originally aired on TV. Mine was called "Six-guns & Saddle Sores". Man, I wish I still had it!

I'm very much looking forward to checking out the PDF, and participating in your game. Unfortunately, I'm a relative new comer to C&C, so the others will be more helpful than I will as far as SIEGE rules go. I still usually have to ask "So... do I add my level to that roll, or how does that go?" It'll also be fun playing with Andre, Tree and Rhu, if they make it. They're the ones with whom most of my C&C experience already lies (Tree's Thursday Ravenloft & Rigon's Sunday Dragonlance).
