Having fun with mapping ~ Yggsburgh/Blacktooth Ridge
Having fun with mapping ~ Yggsburgh/Blacktooth Ridge
Using Hexmapper, I threw together a crude map of the Blacktooth Ridge and Outremere (now New Aenochia) putting in Yggsburgh and a few other points of interest for my campaign.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
Hmm, I see photobucket squished my map somewhat, hopefully y'all can see it OK.

Could you just e-mail it to me? This pic makes my eyes hurt.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Will do. Say, any chance you could host it? Then I can show the full size.
Thanks.

Looks good to me. Is there a specific reason why you made rivers so much more prevelant?

Thanks, that'd be great. The map is only a MB or so (jpg).

Hey, yeah accident. I didn't realize until I was almost done that I could have drawn the rivers instead of using a hex tile!!
I may just make a bigger one. Darn thing is addicting and fun to use, even though it's somewhat crude. I've played around with some of the other mapping tools and may just try them when I finish this one.

Nice job Rhu! I love it... it makes we want to connect Yggsburgh and HH togheter with Hexmapper now. Nice work.

This is cool... and this is also the first time I've heard of this little program. Google yielded those secrets and I'm downloading it.
Are the tiles all part of the base program or did you get other ones from other sources?

Thanks. Technically, Yggs isn't part of the World of Airhde, but one can make it so if one wishes. Heh, and add it stuff from all the other great campaign/module worlds!

Thanks, M. There was an enhanced set of tiles that didn't come with the program. I'll try and find the link.

I believe this would be the link to the actual program:
http://home.paonline.com/zaikoski/ak/TOOLS.HTM
As for the enhanced tiles... I saw mention of some on En World (while I was tracking down the program) but I don't know if they are it.
M
EDIT 1: A link to those Enhanced tiles mentioned on En World
EDIT 2: Link removed as it was useless.

Thanks M. Those hex tiles don't seem to work with this program.

Wish I could load that at work and mess around but alas, network admins won't like that very much. Looking forward to checking this out once I'm home, definitely want to plot out my campaign world (at least the part the players are in now) and make more sense of the geography as I merge Inzae, Airhde and Yggsburgh, plus some other stuff, together.
Thanks for the links!

Is there a commercial site for these? Those versions don't seem to want to run. Says I am missing a file. (like, one your supposed to buy or something?)
You'll need the Visual Basic Runtime stuff:
Here it is:
http://home.paonline.com/zaikoski/ak/AK ... br60un.zip
There was also this note on the page with the original program:
Quote:
Each ZIP file contains only the program and necessary supporting files ... if you've ever installed a VB 6.0 application before, this is probably all you need. These smaller packages do not come with an installer, so please make sure to unzip the HexMapper and the Town Designer with the -d (or Use Folder Names) option; they will end up under a directory called AKS. A Help file is included in all but the Random City Generator.
I haven't tried to install it myself yet so those were the only two things I could think of to help you out. The program itself was freeware.

I created a rough map of the general area my players are moving through. Looks cool and they liked it, helps them "visualize" the lands they're moving through. About 30 miles/hex, 55x30 hexes I think, so a pretty good chunk of the world.
Works nicely, very simple to use--thanks again for the resources!

Hey that's great and glad you got it working.
Hopefully CharlieRock can get it working as well.
I had forgotten there were a couple of weird issues with the VB runtime stuff and the program on my XP box comes up with a couple of boxes as though the install program is trying to come up, and so I cancel them and eventually the program loads and works fine.
I also have it on my Win98 machine and it works fine.

Hey Moriarty ~ apologies. Those hexes and some others I've found will work with Hexmapper. Last night I looked at the Hexmapper help files and they explain how to add hexes. One must edit a hex.txt file and add the .bmp hex file names.
So other hexes or custom ones that you create can be used.
My bad, sorry.

Truth to tell, I haven't had time to play around with it but thanks for the heads up. I went back to grab those extra hexes (for when I do).
