Am I cruel?

Post by Treebore »

I go tthe kids an X-box 360. They know it.

I've told them that they can't play it until Christmas morning.

Until then I'll put it, and the Halo 3 game, unwrapped under our tree.

Why?

I get to watch them twitch. Drool. Go catatonic. Maybe just faint.

So is this a good plan? Or am I just too cruel?

There is supposed to be a poll attached to this, but I am not seeing it.

Yes, you are cruel, but let 'em twitch anyway.

I remember back in the day I had a Commodore 64 and was using a tape drive. A good 32k of the 64k of the RAM was devoted to the system software. Nevertheless, loading my "Sword of Fargoal" game on the tape drive still took over 20 minutes. I am still baffled how less than 32k of data could take over 20 minutes, but such is life. I knew I was getting a disk drive for Christmas and bought "Archon" in anticipation. My mom, a teacher, borrowed a disk drive from school for me to use one weekend. Unfortunately, the disk drive (which was designed for a Commodore Pet) wouldn't work with my C64. My mom took pity and gave me the Christmas present disk drive early. I still had a great Christmas, so maybe letting your kids get the XBox 360 early wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

So is the PS2, but my kids love it too.

I'm sure they love the games, more. Though, the PS2 can act as a universal DVD player, which is my primary reason for having bought it... that way, I can play any DVD from anywhere. I don't recall is the X-Box has that function... and I know the PS3 does (but its uggg and expensive.)

Anyway, I don't consider anything like that to be cruel. Kids needs to be disciplined, with prejudice. ;) Or something.

I got the X box for $186 with shipping. Its refurbished, but I have had better luck with refurbished than brand new.

Haha, dude I thought you were a young feller, but I see that you must close to my age. And that's very excellent to be sure.

Who can forget the tape drive?? At the time, though it didn't seem the slightest bit slow. It'd be fun to try it again. I had the VIC-20 and then the C-128.

When Commodore introduced the floppy drive, man it was heaven!!

Yes Treebore, you are cruel.

I'd comment more but it's time for the children's evening beating.

They just can't sleep without their evening beating.

Yeah, I got my start on the Trash-80... I hear ya.

Hey Treebore... you're a sumbitch. At least I would say so if you teased me in that way. Still, love the Xbox360. Drek; well I totally disagree and I only own 3 games for the system. Great fun.

I'd say you're fiendishly cruel, Tree. The worst part is seeing it, unwrapped, sitting in the living room (or wherever). If you put it ina closet, then it'd be a bit easier (Out of sight, out of mind).

But sometimes learning to wait is a Good Thing.

I don't think it's cruel, Tree... and they'll probably appreciate it even more.

Oh, who am I kidding... if I were the one waiting I would think it's immensely cruel! hehe

Ah, ye olde VIC 20 and C64. You know, I used to think it was a long wait. Maybe it's because I'm impatient by nature. Hmmm... But yeah, the disc drive was like a gift from gawd. Then one day Pool of Radience came along-- er, sorry. Going off into tangentland.

Ahh yes, I just locked mine in the cage for the night and fed them their gruel. Yummy, yummy gruel...

The 360 isn't bad, has some very cool games for it. Assassin's Creed came out today and my father-in-law bought it, was playing it--pretty cool game. Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Tiger Woods 2007 -- plus a few others.

Did I mention I despise the Wii? :puke:

Yes your cruel, but it is a cruelness I like......

It has a good mean NCO streak too it. Like when I made my guys unload my truck -full of beer ice & steaks. Then I preped the steaks in front of them....... & then started the 12 mile road march. The grill didn't get lit till the last man made it in......

I have to agree with Pete on this one. I tried the first Xbox and wasn't impressed and the 360 didn't look any better IMNSHO. I still think it wouldn't be around if Micro$oft wasn't funding it.

The PS3 is just Sony's latest overpriced breakdown waiting to happen. After loosing 2 out of 3 PS2's I own to bad design I have gave up on them. Sony should have quit at the success of the Little Grey Box.

So that leaves the Wii. Yeah stupid name but it is Nintendo and with a family that consists of young children I think it is the way to go. Besides they are not in the "I just got robbed" price range of the other systems.

Indeed it would not. All evidence I have points to the X-Box, in all forms, losing money, consistently, for the company. I guess every corporation needs a loser. But, with MS, what do they have that Wins? Oh, wait. Sorry. Bad pun.
