Munchies you eat during your games

Post by slimykuotoan »

What are they?

Pour moi, I lean towards potato chips of a variety of persuasions: ketchup, chedder, jalapeno -mmm jalapeno- and anything that's stinky and tastes great ie. stinky chedder, taco chips.

And o' course, chocolate bars o' plenty.

And thou?

Oh, I can't forget Pepsi!

Can I say Pepsi here?

Or should I just say 'life's blood'.

It's the bane of gamers everywhere that the best chips are the ones loaded with the stuff that stains your fingers. A very excellent gaming session will leave your dice orange and your character sheet looking like an Oompa-Loompa. .

I personally like having Doritos and Diet Pepsi close at hand. And Nestle' Crunch bars for desert.

It varies fro me.

Some times its chips and home made salsa. Other times is Pistachio's. Sometimes its cheese crackers. Peanuts. Even potato chips, even though I am a purist and eat original. Even old fashioned popcorn (IE not microwaved).

Pepsi isn't even a constant. I often just drink ice water.

Coffee, tea, cookies, cheese cookies (not sweet, made with cheddar), home-made party mix, peanuts and/or cashews and sometimes a beer or three.

I am very sensitive about staining my books, but most of the players have their own PHB/core rulebooks (usually bought by me).

I try not to eat anything. I don't want to have to go to the john in the middle of a fierce battle, after all.

I will let him explain, but you haven't seen this? Even out here in the sticks we have Pocky at most grocery stores, in the oriental food aisle.

Heh, I'm drooling now. I'm a regular at Oriental food marts. I love Nukmam!

Diet Coke, coffee, or water. Eating is for the weak.

Pretzels. Bowls and bowls of them.
I would add coffee, but I'm never without coffee so it's not exactly a "gaming" beverage.

It's a Japanese candy - cookie sticks dipped in a multitude of flavors - we stick with chocolate and strawberry - if you look around in bigger markets you can find some really bizarre flavors - some sound interesting, but others... *shakes head and makes a face*

Wiki's got a big list of all the flavors, but we don't get all those around here. Our resident anime nut brings them every time, and since I'm addicted to chocolate in all forms, it works for me!

I think Flying Buffalo came out with a dice set that had pizza toppings instead of numbers. Instead of fighting over what toppings to get you can fight over who gets to roll.

Typically we show up after everyone has had dinner, so no one is starving when we get going. That being said, we have some "traditional" snacks.

Being thirty plus year old gamers, we have Starbucks brewed in copious amounts, and it is not unusual for a "commercial size" bottle of Captain Morgan to be used to "flavor" our coffee. Often at the same time, we have our favorite beers from the local microbrewery shop (and occasional bickering as to who does and doesn't contribute to its purchase and yet imbibes everyone elses.....week after week...and no, I'm not that guy).

Pretzels are a mainstay, but this occasionally displaced by my buddy's wife bringing us a giant tray of nachos (with the works) right out of the oven! And this is a major disruption to the game, but the only one we welcome!

Wasn't this thread posted like 6 months ago?

Hasn't changed since then.

Whatever is available... if I like it, and I'm wanting to snack.

For drinks, usually some kind of flavored water since I've given up soda.

I love Captain Morgan, and I like a good beer, nachos are not bad, but the combination of all three sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Our gaming sessions get pretty eclectic when it comes to snacking. A friend of ours has a mother that wins state fair canning contests, so we have spicy, pickled green beans to munch on to go with someone's spicy venison (from hunting) and spicy cheese dips. Gets mighty stinky after a bit....

Another friend scored us a whole lot of mead, especially a hibiscus mead called the Egyptian that made the game session good and silly really fast.

Our group drinks Mountain Dew like water, but recently we discovered a south of the border soda called Guarna Antarctica with real cane sugar, that may soon replace the old standard. Keeps us pretty wired too and tastes a whole lot better.

Other players usually bring a wide assortment of things to snack on. I'm not a big fan of bringing a lot of junk to the gaming table, especially food like items. personally I try to avoid it. I do bring beverages all the time, mostly water and Lipton Green tea to keep me awake during late night saturday sessions.

Quite possibly the BEST thing I have ever eaten during a game was a brownie from Frank's bakery (the Cream Cheese ones...). I bought it as a 'snack', but after a few bites decided it was going to be dinner.

What? No mention of Mountain Dew?! That's my drink of choice and I thought it was the common gamer drink. When I owned my game store, Mountain Dew outsold all other sodas 3 to 1. The next most popular was Coke, then Water, then Pepsi, then Dr. Pepper, then Root Beer.

I like Ruffles and either French onion or cheese dip. But my favorite is when my wife bakes cookies. She's know in the local gamer circles around here for her cookies. I swear sometimes I'm invited into games just to get some "Melissa Cookies". When she brings cookies its the only time I drink milk at the games.

I enjoy a good microbrew or two , Guiness is always good and much coffee, as for munchies my wife makes some badass brownies and cookies , pizza and steamed cheese burgs for ordering out , also the occasional cheese platter . My wifes brothers brought squid jerky once ..yes I said SQUID jerky ..they were ostracised for a month. tasted like shoe leather made out of dead rotten fish ...yes I'll try anything once
