World of Aihrde PDF - Help on clarification ...
World of Aihrde PDF - Help on clarification ...
I just received a refund from the Trolls after some of my order couldn't be sourced in time for shipping. Not a problem as I ended up making a set of purchases through DriveThruRPG (Introductory Adventures bundle and AWD Folio).
I'm reading through the AWD Folio and I've noticed some possible errors.
The Fantasy Adventure Setting book page 11, describes the current date as being 1097md but the Cosmology, Time-Line, Guilds and Gods book page 10, shows the date as being 1197md.
The Fantasy Adventure Setting book page 13, describes the 6 Greater Divisions of Men as "Aenoch, Ethrum, Inklu, Naida, Aathuk and Chianuk" but then goes on to describe Aenoch, Ethrum, Inklu, Rykaard and Aathuk.
The Fantasy Adventure Setting book page 13, describes the 7 Lesser Divisions of Men as "Madriu, Niada, Engale, Zuala, Katha, Oanthuil and Ustracan" but then goes on to describe Nehian, Madriu, Naida, Engale, Zuala, Katha, Oanthuil and Ustracan.
The Fantasy Adventure Setting book page 13, describes the Nehian as the Nia.
The Fantasy Adventure Setting book page 14, describes the Naida as the Niad but changes them to the Nia.
Anyone know what the correct answers should be?

Re: World of Aihrde PDF - Help on clarification ...
The correct answers, from what I understand from Steve are, "all of the above". The differing time lines, names and places are due to the cultural perspective of whichever culture is writing down the history. So names, pronunciation, dates and spelling are going to differ. As does any history related by even IRL cultures and societies.

That's all very well, but it's not particular helpful for a GM who's trying to get their head around this.
After all, when the time line in the Cosmology, Time-Line, Guilds and Gods says that Unklar was banished in 1130md and that the current date is 1197md. Yet every other published resource including Lion in the Ropes, Rising Knight and Fantasy Adventure Setting say that Unklar was banished in 1030md and the current date is 1097md.
I'm pretty sure that the Elves, Dwarfs, Humans and other races can tell when a hundred years have gone missing since all the timelines are wrong by exactly the same amount.
After all, in Lion in the Ropes Lord Galverston had reached the grand old age of 101 yet if the Cosmology, Time-Line, Guilds and Gods timeline is correct then every human ruler in the Cradle of the World should be in excess of 120 years old.
A definitive answer on the 13 divisions of Man would be appreciated as well.
(Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic setting and I love it to pieces but your answer just came across as extremely flippant and condescending.)

Well, that was the definite answer I get any time I've asked the writer, that the dates are deliberately different for that very reason. I can't help how my answers come across. Especially on something as non emotive as type.

In which case, I apologise wholeheartedly if I misinterpreted your statement. If you have trouble getting a straight answer from the writer, I sympathise because I have the same problem with sales people.
I could accept the "different cultures, different races, different calendars" if it weren't for the fact that all the calendars are wrong by the same amount ... one hundred years.

This I know for sure, forthcoming products go into more detail. The Folio was more in the way of a primer, and as such is more bare bones. Its been a while since I looked at it, but I believe the Codex goes into a lot more information on such things as culture and the like.
Steve is also doing a fair bit of revising on his material to C&C'ize it, so there are bound to be differences between older and newer products.

Would you prefer each culture have a separate time-tracking method? That is, say, a dwarf year is only 200 days, but each day is 36 hours?
Making them "different" but still having the same "error" makes them equivalent...
Such things are done for one reason: to keep things superficially apart but retain the similarities underneath for one over-reaching goal: simplicity.
I know I'd not like to have cross-reference a calendar and a conversion chart to find when X happened for Y... I'd just like to count back the years and say, oh so this happened 32 years ago, which puts it here. But, that's me.

So this means there is a Codex of Airdhe planned for C&C? Like a better version of the d20 tome?

Something of the sort. As for a time frame, I've no idea.

At one point it there was rumors of it being an Aihrde 'White' Box Set. However, whether it be a book like the original Codex or a Box Set makes little difference to me. It'll be added to the collection when it comes out...
However, I wouldn't expect it before the CKG or C&C Basic. That still makes me happy!
I still have to sit down and give it a read though.

Corthain forbid!! That isn't what I want. I'm quite happy to have the year be the same length, regardless of race and culture.
What I was asking was for, was for someone to tell me whether the timeline in the Cosmology, Time-Line, Guilds and Gods is mistaken when it contradicts all the other published material to say that Unklar was banished in 1130md.

Howdy Arakor.
The 1130md/1197md appear to be incorrect. They apparently have been taken from the Codex of Erde chart that has a typo.
Upon thumbing through the Codex and looking at the various chapters on the kingdoms and their important historical dates, it would seem that the 1030md/1097md are the correct dates.

Thank you for that, Rhuvein. Just goes to show that I could do with the "Codex of Erde" but it's extremely hard to get hold of in the UK.
Mind you, I'm bouncing with joy at the moment because I just received a lovely big box from TLG this morning.
Whilst we're at it ... What does the Codex say about the Divisions of Man??

Hey, you might want to send Steve an email on the Codex. I think TLG ships to the UK. I know shipping is high (or at least, I assume it's not cheap), but TLG has the Codex for sale for $5.00.
Re: the divisions of man. There is some general info, but I don't see anything in detail, but it may be spread around the book. So I'll have another look tomorrow. I'm a bit under the weather and will be ready for my first hot toddy shortly.
