[A Series] A couple of questions ...

Post by Arakor »

Hello all ...

Received a bumper package from the Trolls this week which included A1, A2, A3 and A4.

Having read through them, I've some questions that I hope people can answer for me:

In A1: Assault on Blacktooth Ridge, page 20, there is a wonderful piece of artwork by Daniele Bigliardo. When I first saw this picture, I couldn't help thinking that the goblins look just like "Gremlins". Was this deliberate??

In A3: Wicked Cauldron, the Witch Queen is served by what are interchangeably called Goblins or Goblitts. Mr Bradley's artwork makes them look different to the goblins in A1 so I'm assuming that Goblitts is correct but it would be nice to know what they are.

Goblitts are a creature of Airdhe, likely to be fully detailed in the book Monsters of Airdhe, when Steve gets it ready. They are not identical to goblins. Usually, such things are placed in the module where they are introduced, so if its not there, then it might be worth asking Steve to make an errata sheet for the statblock.

As to the gremlin thing... depends on the description and the interpretation of the artist; for example, my prysmal eye came out looking like a turtle as opposed to what it was originally envisioned as because what it originally was was difficult to draw - and, I think the turtle look is cooler, anyway.

I got a line of text for an art description that said.

"Draw hot sorceress chick sitting on throne with some goblin like creatures."

Sometimes I don't get descriptions even that long.

So they were supposed to be sitting on the throne together?

Hi J.

Just curious, which monster write-ups were missing?? I'm getting this module ready as a possibility for my group, so I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks.

location of A1 in CS1 maps?

Post by Robocoastie »

Thought I'd tack this question here rather than a new thread. (Search turned this thread up).

Color me clueless but I can't seem to find the location of the Blacktooth ridge area (A1) on the maps or in the books included with CS1 "After Winter's Dark" folder of materials. Is it outside the Cradle of the World perhaps and thus unmapped?

Please advise thanks,

Rob

It is there ...

You're looking at what used to be Outremere but is renamed New Aenochia.

You want the map of the Eastern part of the Cradle, just above the compass rose and north of the Kellerwald, you will see Blacktooth Ridge.

Thanks Arakor I see it on the map now. But I don't see botkinburg, the hrusen river or the barren wood. Or are they just unmapped and "fudge it" :)

thanks,

Rob

Take a stab in the dark, and tell me what you think the Trolls are likely to say ??

Yeah, the river should be there.

The only excuse I can think of is the scale fo teh maps are always maleable. Meaning that the Trolls leave up the map scale to us CK's. So depending on the scale chosen the river could be too small to be worth showing.

Still, with it being the focus of the "A" series they should have given it good detail. Which they have, in the modules, but it should have also been made to match up on the folio map.

thanks for the info, it's no problem to consider the town and "river" a small split from the Vounilay river, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being further clueless by not seeing the town and river mentioned on the map already.
