What order do all the discworld books with Sam Vimes (the guard captain) go in? Last I read about him doesn't come close to where I picked up at now. (reading Thud!)
Anybody know? Is there a fansite that might know?

Vimes also appears in some other Discworld's novels, but those ones are where he is a primary character.

No wonder I'm lost. I went from Feet of Clay straight to Thud!.
Thanks a bunch. I'm going to hold off there and restart back somewhere closer to the beginning (if the library has them, I saw Nightwatch and Fifth Elephant there).
I've got the fourth part of Elizabeth Moon's series about the space privateer, Engaging the Enemy, and I know for sure I read the first three there. Part three was such a cliffhanger. But the library didn't get part four in until just recently.
Last thing I remember Sam had gotten suspicious about Carrot and the resemblance he had to an ancient hero in a portrait.

I really enjoy the Discworld series.. and the Watch in particular. I tremendously enjoyed Night Watch.. and cannot comment WHY because it would spoil it..
Heck.. the only book of the Watch I did not enjoy 100% is Men At Arms, because the maguffin in that book is something that kinda was jarring when considered against the backdrop of Discworld. (yes, being vague again)

I gotta say that I liked Going Postal a bit more than MM. I still enjoyed MM quite a lot.. but it felt like there were SOOO many more characters that could have been developed more, if there were less. (if that makes sense).
Some of the more colorful characters of Ankh Morpork just felt shoehorned into the plot, and were not terribly needed. Nice nods to other books.. but to show up, then drop out of the book like that made me want to see more of those characaters.. instead of focusing on the new people..
As for me.. My preference in storylines would be..
The Watch (bestest)
Death and His Family (love susan)
The Witches
The Faculty of Unseen University (almost a tie with Witches)
and somewhere down lower.. Rincewind
interms of stand alones ..
Small Gods is the bestest..
of course, these are my opinions and should not be quoted for fact!

That preferance order so closely mirrors my own I thought I posted it. Just flip-flop Rincewind with theFaculty (that was the giveaway )

Same opinion here, liked MM but not as much as others.
I really felt like there were too much in it, and nothing developped...
My all-time favourite must be Mort or Wyrd Sisters, rarely laughed that much with books!
Good Omens, written with Neil Gaiman, is also quite good (to say the least.)
If only the movie, which was supposedly to be directed by Terry Gilliam, would see the light of day...
