Hello to all,
I am thinking about trying C&C and was wondering is the info in the Boxed set the same as the books or is it a bit watered down? It seems like a screamin' deal to just buy the boxed set.
Thanks
Jai

Hello and Welcome!
The box set is a complete game, but simplified. It has 4 classes (Fighter, Wizard, Cleric, Rogue) and three demi-human races (Dwarf, Elf, Halfling).
The hardbacks give you 13 classes (the above 4 plus Ranger, Druid, Illusionist, Barbarian, Monk, Assassin, Paladin, Knight & Bard), more races (Half Elf, Half Orc, Gnome) and a wider list of spells and abilities.
The box set is fine, and actually preferred if you're more of a Very-Rules-Light kinda person. The box set carries you to level 100 I think, and is certainly a complete game.
But if you want more details and crunchy bits, you might want to hardbacks.
Good Luck!
Mike

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

We likes him spending more, thank you.
Welcome, Shinydemon in the middle of the road. Can we play you the best song in the world?
Seriously, though, the box set can be thought of like this -- D&D "basic" (but not an exact comparison) and the hardcovers are AD&D.
Oh, and, wow! Level 100? I gotta reads that again...

Two books are considered required... the Player's Handbook and the Monsters & Treasure Guide.
That's it!

...of course, if you're trying to get your group into playing, only the Gm (Castle Keeper) needs Monsters & Treasures. But more purchases are better of course.
Serl, maybe its just my copy. But I'm a hardass CK and don't let players get over 60th level.

All,
thanks for the input. Turns out, its all so cheap I bought the PHB, M&T, and the boxed set for spur of the moment games. Now the waiting..............

Man, you are in for soooo much fun!!!!!
Check out the online games here as well if you can't get a group started right away.

Hey, Mike, the steelness of your buns is not something I need in my third eye, alright? Now I need to get a bristle, spoon, and some Crisco to get that out.
Butt, back on topic, you can't go wrong with whatever you decided to get, for the price its going for currently. Even if you don't play it exactly as written... remember, C&C was meant to be an inspiration and "game DNA" thing. Do what you will.

Welcome Shinydemon.
I love the C&C boxed set . . great way to start a game and get a feel for the system. Wow, it occurs to me that I purchased the boxed set 3 years ago at this time!!
Enjoy the game!

...Eh, it was a turn of phrase Serl! Keep your Crisco to yourself!
Anyway, Shinydemon....let us know if you have questions and which set you prefer. To date I still prefer the Box set with a few extra classes (like the Knight, Bard & Ranger) but my wife prefers the PHB so in the end that's what gets run out here!
