Oh my... AVP-R

Post by Omote »

This flick is pretty good in a bad sort of way. It's got directors who are clearly UNDENIABLE fans of the Alien, Aliens and Predator... so much so that it's a bit much. Oh yeah, AVP-R is a total monster movie / slasher pic. It's NOT like the original AVP, and clearly has a MASSIVELY small (comparitively speaking) budget...

This might rank up there as one of the goriest A-list movies... ever. Eat your heart out SAW.

Overall, not too bad. The actors and dialogue are horror-movie bad, the story is typical monster movie stuff with Aliens and Predator mythology thrown in. But, the last few moments of AVP-R link this series of movies totally into the Alien/Predator mythology most excellently (kind of like Charles Bishop Weyland showing up in the original AVP).

Omote rating........... 7.5 / 11.0

Acting: 4.5 / 11

Story: 7.0 / 11

Visuals: 8.5 / 11

Gore: 11.0 / 11

After seeing the first one, I'm extremely reluctant to check this out.

But, given what you said here and in the other thread, I just may eventually sit down and watch it some day.

have to take the AVP movies with a grain of salt... they are, however based on comic books and video games. Granted, these AVP movies both tried to work themselves into the main Aliens/Pretator mythology, and did so well enough (at least in my mind).

However, the Strause Brothers who directed AVP-R have gone on record as saying that if this movie makes money, and the company wants them back to direct, they would defintely move the next film into space.

Since AVP-R essentially ends the AVP storyline, I can see the next Aliens or Predator movie being directed by these guys moving into a futuristic setting.

-OR- which would be totally badass, the next film showing much more of the Weyland-Yutani mega-corporation! Oh, one can only dream...

I actually liked it, eventhough I had incredibly low expectations going into it (given the absolute abominations that were Alien: Ressurection and Alien vs Predator). I was pleasantly surprised and guessed that it was Yutani before they said so. I also loved the references to Aliens (especially the beginning with the US Colonial Marines' motion tracker sounds, as well as dialogue and music) and the first Predator movie ('Get to the chopper' etc).

As for the future, I'm certainly hopeful that if there is a 3, they return to the thing fans (from what I understand) want most: Aliens vs Predators with Colonial Marines caught in the middle.

The homages to the Alien, Aliens and Predator were bit much IMO. While cool from a fan standpoint, it got a bit annoying espcially with SE so prevalent from Aliens, especially. The "get to the chopper" line while amusing, kind of took me out of the movie for a bit to chuckle... as did the hundreds of other fans in the theater.

I liked it to overall. But good point about having Aliens, vs Predetors vs Colonial Marines... although that has been done before most of the Fan s of these series are waiting for a new Aliens movie.

Rhuvein, if you have any self-respect, you will avoid that tragic waste of the human spirit as diligently as possible. The first one was made palatable only with the inclusion of Lance Henrikson, and who was killed off far too early - and in forgettable a fashion - to warrant a checkmark in the movie's favor as a result.

Paul Anderson, is in my humble opinion, one of the great mediocre directors of all time (contradictory as that might sound) - although I can do nothing but have the utmost respect and slavish devotion for his choice in girlfriends/wives (Milla Jovovich? Milla Jovovich?!? The woman I elect Girl for Whom I Would Crawl Over Broken Glass On My Hands and Knees With a Rose Clutched Between My Teeth? Dude, teach me).

LOL, whoa that bad, huh? Maybe I'll see if it's at my library, then I can rent it for free.

I still want to see this. I didn't really hate the first AVP as much as I did Resurrection and Alien 3. But the idea of the marines back again in the third one is nice.

I didn't love AVP, but I enjoyed it, so I'm sure I'll get this on DVD.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I look at it as a different take on an established Mythos. However I do wish there had been more Predator movies. Part 2 left lots of possibilities but were never explored in film.

Haha, I view Alien Resurrection as a dark comedy. I was actually cheering for the aliens, and when they got Brad Dourif, I was clapping and happy as hell.

I think this movie was pure hilarity and fun and I just loved the cast of characters.

Alien Ressurection is my least favorite of all the movies, by far.

I think my problem with the Aliens series was that I got hooked on the Dark Horse comics. Their stories by far blew away the movies that appeared after Aliens.

I have to admit I love Ressurection when I look at is as a comedy. As a sci fi horror it sucks. I did/do like a lot of the actors though.

AVPR is worth watching. I really have nothing but disdain for the first AVP, but this one is much better. The predalien is badass.

My wife got me AVP for Christmas. I just watched the extended version and I have to admit I actually liked it this time around.

I loved this movie - pure carnage and ass kicking!.

If you go to a movie called 'Alien vs. Predator" - you should want to see 1 thing: two different species of extra terrestrial's kicking the crap out of each other - and that is what you get. Not to mention all the poor humans caught in the middle - the body count in this movie was quite high.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the way over done super hot high school girl who is really nice and dating a total douche bag who likes to beat up on the not so cool protagonist.

After seeing the movie, my thought was "Now that is how you f**k make an Aliens vs. Predator movie!" While the 1st was decent, this one kicked ass!
