Say one wanted to go back to the classic style spell schools would they translate over to C&C as is or is there a list of intended schools for the spells? Also why was the concept dropped in C&C?

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06

No list of intended schools and it was a decision to drop the concept as an unneeded complexity. Nothing in the game relies on knowing what "school" something is, and there are no "specialists" so the idea is just something that would serve little purpose. What few monster effects might rely on such things generally refer to "things that affect the mind" or "those which cause damage by fire" or whatever, and so, don't have to be categorized as "enchantment" or "evocation."
