SG1 Engineering Dungeons

Post by Breakdaddy »

So I picked up a copy of Engineering Dungeons today from the TLG offices. Bright mustard cover, 28 pages, and has a lot of monster and room tables as can be expected. Havent done more than glance over it yet, but so far it looks good.

Ahh, so they went with SG1 and not R3. Glad you like it, on a glance, as that's usually how people tell if they want something. However, bright mustard? Eww. Sell this out fast so it can have a good coal background.

Oh, and if you would, could you write a review? Strengths, weaknesses, things I missed... whatever. I like knowing how to improve.

Ok... I know the 'R' Series is in reference to, well... 'Reference' if I'm not mistaken but what about 'SG' ??

I can't wait for this one as well, I noticed NKG has the Chimera's Roost module for sale but I want to wait till this one is also in their inventory before I make an order (along with a couple of other things I'm looking at).

SG stands for Siege Gear. So SG 1 is Siege Gear 1. The idea is that optional supplements like this will be SG while stuff that TLG considers more Core Rules related or expansive will be R-series.

I ordered a copy from my FLGS a couple weeks ago, but I'm not convinced he's actually gotten around to ordering it yet. I checked in on Saturday and he said his distributor didn't have it in yet, but I got the impression he'd totally forgotten about it. I've got my fingers crossed that he has actually ordered it for me at this point. If not, it won't be my FLGS anymore.

They just came off the printers last night, so Im not surprised that the distributors don't have them yet. I hope your LGS doesnt forget you!

Almost every page has art except for the monster table pages. Lots of good art in there.

I'm looking to curtail RPG spending this year, especially if I'm going to go to LGGC. But, this book I will be buying.

If you guys like tables, you are going to enjoy this book. I've spent a little time reading it and it has tables for everything from monsters to traps, sounds, odors, physical decorations, treasure and much more to enhance your dungeon creation experience. One of my favorite books is a table-based book (Gygax's World Builder) and the tables here are as well thought out and explained as they are in the World Builder. One small point though, I sincerely wish this book had a ToC, it needs it badly for CKs that want to quick-flip right to what they need. A small oversight, however, and the cover art by Pete Bradley is very evocative of the old school dungeon crawl experience. Good job all the way round.

Damnit! I knew there was something I missed. I'm sorry, I did use bookmarks in the pdf sent in, though, and an outline was used with page references which I thought might be the foundation of a ToC, but, at 24 pages long, its not that huge, and most anything can be found relatively quickly... I mean, the random monsters takes up, what 2-3 pages right in the center, right? I wish I could see this thing, dangit.

Not everything requires that, but, I guess I could have put even more table sof random uselessness in... like direction of moss growths and whatnot.

I heard that there's a poisoned needle on p. 3 that you have to disarm before you get to p. 4. Otherwise, it's the last book you ever read.

Isn't that the same cover art used on "Galal's Grave"?
