Hi,
So, tomorrow I start my real first crack at running C&C (I have owned the books for a year now). Not content to let things be, I had to see just how good this engine runs. So, here is the saga so far.
I am setting the game in Lankhmar. I have 2 players one playing a bard one playing a varient monk.
1) I hate trying to balance low level characters, but feel 1st level is too important to skip, so they are going to get double max hit points at first. (rationale, I am not trying to protect them, I want to throw some decent stuff at them)
2) I realized that I had no spellcasters as PCs. That means that magic is soley in my back pocket. So they are going up against Dream-mages. The Mages are 3rd level, but when awake cast as 1st level Illusionist, when in a dream trance they cast as 5th level illusionist.
3) I am pulling monsters from everywhere. I have npc's made from the C&C players handbook, monsters from the C&C M&T, and monsters from the Iron Kingdom monster book Monsternomicon. The stat blocks are incredible.
I will post a follow-up after the game if anybody is interested. But I feel like I am really getting my hands dirty revving up the motor of car. Which is a weird analogy for me as I am totally clueless when it comes to cars.
Wolfram.

That's great, Wolfram_Stout. Hope the game goes well and yes, let us know.
The SIEGE engine is made for low or high speed game play.
I'm running a 426" hemi, with dual Holly carbs and a 5 speed trans with a Hurst hairy t-handle shifter . . .
Oops sorry, got carried away. Drive safely!
Enjoy the game!

wow what fun
So,
Instead of using the infiltration of Dream-mages (Illusionist from the southern jungle area) into lankhmar as a way to forge contacts in the Sorcerer Guild, the two players decided to antagonize the Guild as well.
The players had been slipped a dreamstone by a Sorc guild apprentise after he stole it. The apprentise then died. The players were contacted by the guild (which to be honest is an evil guild), and the players refused to sell or cooperate with the guild. So, they were promptly ambused by a sorcerer and 5 thugs. The bard went down and the monk went chasing after the sorcerer. Needless to say by the time he got back the bard was a hostage.
short story short, the monk made the deal and exchanged the stone for the bard.
So, they finally get on the path of the dream-mages and promptly fall for an illusion trap. (they don't even blink when I tell them they have been transported to the jungle...any hesitation and I would have given them a save, they bought it hook line and sinker). They get beaten down by jungle creatures (which thankfully are illusions so no real damage). They awaken in the temple of the dream-mages and thankfully roll well on slipping their bonds. They do the smart thing and find the exit and high tell it back to their patron (a vampire with a were-pather pard). They are happy to take the credit but let the cavarly do the fighting.
A blast, the engine worked well and the saves and ability checks went off without a hitch.
As a side note, if any of you are familar with the adventures of Fafrd and the Grey Mouser, this played very like one of their stories. The two could have come away with as much as 1450 gold. They didn't, They came away with a 200 gold piece reward for capturing a panther that the dreammages were using as a hunting pet.
Thanks for indulging my storytelling.

I like this very much. If you can tell us more about Dream-Mages, I would be glad to hear about it.
