I will hoist a pint (or two) today, and remember a friend who passed away.

Happy St Patrick's Day to all!

Ah yes, is this why I'm wearing green today? I knew there was a good reason.

Good day to all!

I'll throw back an Alexander Keith's when I get home from my hockey game tonight -- and probably a bottle of whatever American imitation of beer the guys bring to the locker room.

Happy...

Would it be considered a threadcrap to point out that St. Patrick's Day was this past Saturday?

From Wikipedia:

Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: L le Pdraig or L Fhile Pdraig), colloquially St. Paddy's Day or Paddy's Day, is an annual feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (circa 385461 AD), one of the patron saints of Ireland, and is generally celebrated on March 17.

I guess you can celebrate it whenever you want. I'm going with today.

Sorry mang. You missed it. No beer for you until next St. Patrick's Day. Thems the rules.

Quote:
Dublin, Jul 19, 2007 / 10:42 am (CNA).- Religions celebrations for St. Patrick's Day will come two days early in Ireland next year to avoid a conflict with Holy Week.

St. Patrick's Day is usually celebrated March 17, but Ireland's bishops have shifted the feast day, in honor of the national saint, to Saturday, March 15, reported The Associated Press.

Church authorities reportedly spent weeks debating where to move the feast day because March 17, 2008, falls on the second day of Holy Week next year.

The liturgical norms would require the feast day to be moved to the earliest available date after Easter, which would be April 1. But church officials said the Vatican approved the March 15 date in order to minimize conflict with the scheduled civic events....

So, who here is an Irish Catholic, then, and who is just using it as an excuse to drink? What an important "holiday."

In my family history, there's nothing but a long list of Englishmen and women, with the occasional suspected Scot back a ways on my mother's side. In the direct line down on my father's side, nothing but English. With one exception. One lone exception mars the list. Around 1620, one of my ancestors married "An Irish Woman". Stands out quite a bit on that list, because all the other women are listed by name and family. But Chris, in 1620 - married to "Irish Woman". It's apparent that the family didn't think much of the idea.

Being born and raised in Chicago, I'm an honorary Irishmen and I'll drink a toast to all my Irish mates who I grew up with. Just like they would drink glogg with me over Christmas.

Here's to lasses and lads!!

For the second year in a row, I was away from Dublin for St. Patrick's Day. (Rather a good thing, simply to avoid all the obnoxious tourists...)

What about the tourists that aren't obnoxious? You should hang with them.
