Cardboard heroes

Post by cuchulainkevin »

I was thinking that sheets similar to the cardboard heroes cutouts might make a nice insert for Crusader on a periodic basis. Especiallly if we could get PB to do some of the illos based on some of his iconic images from the PHB and M&T .

A gallery of NPC images like TSR ran in Dragon would be a nice feature also.

Yeah I LOVE those things!

I do not like to take my painted metal minis anywhere, so the cardboard ones are great for big battles.

As long as they are PC type portraits, I already bought Fiery Dragons counters.

I think, while it might be a good idea, it would be costly. At least, for that particular magazine, which would throw off the subscription rate, or cause an individual increase in cost. Maybe as a product of its own? R3: Encounter Assortment?

Maybe a black and white sheet- that way it could stay in the magazine and people could photo copy the sheets.

I would buy a R3 if the Trolls made it (especially if it used PB art).

I too was thinking it might be too costly as a magazine insert, unless it was the same paper stock and B/W.

May the mag could have a B/W preview sheet for subscribers and a separate product could be done in color on cardstock? if pre-punched so we don't have to cut them out, even better!

It would have the benefit for TLG of being usable by any game and that might drive up sales and exposure of C&C.

(I think big, what can I tell you?)

Every issue of the Crusader should contain a mini game like Strategy & Tactics. How cool would that be?!

So do I, and as others have pointed out, the extra costs can be avoided if they're just a printed paper sheet of line drawings that people can photocopy/scan as needed and colour themselves.

In fact, it would make them even more versatile. Mind you, I'm a big fan of card figures, so I do have some bias in this.

Hmm, the Trolls have a high quality printer on sight ~ and they have hired the most excellent fellow Mark Sandy. So . . . yeah baby - print the cutouts on site!!!

MERP Middle Earth Role-Play Game had counters. Didn't Steve Jackson Games have Cardboard Heroes?? Probably others too. Good idea for a seperate project.

I don't know, the PDF products available at RPGnow are pretty comprehensive, and I am fine with printing them out myself on card stock.

I'd buy a set of cardstock mini's from TLG especially with Pete's work on them. Printing out your own is fine but I'd like the feel of consistancy with a C&C based set.

Well, in Crusader #9 there will be an insert near the center of the magazine for creating card models for use with miniatures, with included instructions for putting things together provided by the one and only Tom Tullis... so Crusader is already starting to think along those lines! The illustrations for the models when provided to me were in full color, and I believe that they are going to be on the normal magazine weight paper, so you could take them to your local Kinko's and copy them onto cardstock if you were so inclined and not have to cut up your lovely magazine. And nobody wants to cut up an issue of the Crusader, right? Right??
If this gets good feedback, who knows what might turn up in future issues?
