Non-fantasy work
I got commissioned through my day job to do a poster for the 2008 New Braunfels, Texas Wein & Saengerfest. Basically, it's a charity wine and music festival to raise money for the preservation of historic buildings. The clients wanted something abstract, and even sent us links to an artist they liked. My boss volunteered my brushes to the cause.
Here's the result. One satisfying aspect is that a major landmark in downtown New Braunfels is the Brauntex theatre and its marquee. Since it's in the background, I pretty much had license to sign this puppy straight down the middle in big block letters. Also, one of my cats posed admirably for his portrait to be included in the work.
Not my usual style by a long shot, but it was actually fun:
And Winston "Winbone" Churchill's close-up. That's his "I've got all the answers" look:
Anyway, that's what I've been up to this week. Just figured I'd share!

I dig the hell out of it, Jason!
It reminds me of a guy's style that I really, really like that's not in the fantasy genre (well, not RPG fantasy that is, because some of his stuff is pretty out there) but he's got a very cool website that's set up with his paintings and songs that he writes and produces himself. The guy's name is Aaron Jasinski....you should check him out, Jason. Very reminiscent of your style in that painting.

A good rendition from a great man! Sir I salute you!
That guy sort of reminded me of Terry Thomas the cad and bounder!
Then I got to thinking he was plying those two young innocents with wine in the hopes of a threesome...while Winston the cat looks on.
Correct me if I'm wrong?

Hey, thanks Jungger. I always liked the expressionists way back when I had my art history lessons. I definitely take it as a compliment. Naturally, the scan doesn't do the original justice, but here's a close-up of the party-goers.
