Troll Knuckles
Anyone have this game? I don't recall seeing this on the old TLG site.

I have it but we haven't got to play it yet outside of me messing with it to learn the rules. On the outside it looks pretty simple but there is a deeper strategy when you really look at trying to build a good 'gut', that is the hand that you use to win.

Hahaha I haven't thought about Troll Knuckles in awhile. We innitiall printed about 1000 copies of this game (designed by Davis and my wife). Is a simple dice game, one best played in the company of some . . . tall, glass . . . er, you get the picture. I'll poke around and see if I can't find the rules, if I can I'll post them. In an ironic twist Davis, who has just finished reorganizing the warehouse dropped a box of about 20 or so of them on my desk last week. haha Great Game.

Any chance of getting tips on how to get decent betting out of it. Been having problems getting a good bet system up especially with the loads.

Sounds like it could be a lot of fun... I'd love to see the rules if you can find them!
Thanks,

Knuckles Found
I picked up a copy of the knuckles in... (wow... must have been back in 2001 at gencon)
Anyways, I could never understand it well enough to use it... and I just found the set in a box with my Brawl decks and a Hack! deck... and some cheapass games money.
Anyways, I was also wondering how betting would be structured... if there's bets between slices, hmm...
You could have it where you bet a set amount each "hand" to the pot, and if the next person doesn't beat your hand, you pick up the pot. (which would work well for the loads I think). And it would allow the game to have more than 2 players.
But the loads only really come up 4 out of every 216 hands...
One problem I have with the game is that you seem to have about a 1 in 6 chance of making any gut you're going for (though I suppose they're supposed to be rare, not as rare as loads, but not as common as Ettins/hydras [2/3 of a kind]).
Speaking of Ettins... it seems the major decision one would face is whether or not to go for a possible load, or hope to win on a bladder (high card)
And one more thing... It's impossible to get 3 in a row on anything but the eye! So why didn't you just describe the fist 1-2-3? Or will any consecutive numbers on that die work? For instance on the knuckle (evens) 2-4-6... or 6-8-10?
That's all I've got to rant about atm...

Sounds like the simple/complex dice game needs some errata.
I've been wondering about this too. Because if I understand the rules properly, your gut is made up only out of numbers from one of the dice, married with the numbers on it in the previous slices...
So is 2,4,6 and 5,7,9 consecutive (on the knuckle and eye respectively)?
They could be called consecutive evens/odds/primes...

Hey,
Just got my set of Troll Knuckles for Xmas and my wife and I were wondering about a few things.
First up, though, is there any time in which keeping the Odd die (purple) is a good idea?
- It cannot be used to build any of the guts
- It has the same odds to build a two or three of a kind as the other dice do
- Its highest number is only 11; the even die goes up to 12
It seems to me that one should always discard the purple die from the first slice. There is no time when keeping it is advantageous, except possibly when you rolled an 11 and you are going for a single high number.
Am I missing something?

Funny, i just bought this b/c I'm a dice game nut.
(drift: anyone play Cosmic Wimpout? One of my favs)
Anyway, read the rules twice and need to kick it around a little to figger it out, but like Mao said, as I read it, you end up building a gut from the consecutive rolls of only one of the dice, unless you roll a load in the first slice.
Right?
For betting, you could do it like Cee-Low.
Ante to roll, whoever wins takes all (it doesn't have to be complicated, especially if you're drinking).
If there's a tie, those two players ante again and roll-off for the pot. Pretty simple. We used to play it like, if anyone rolled Cee low (automatically win) everyone else also rolled to see if a tie developed before the Ceelow roller took the pot.
{edit: just realized we re-animated a dead thread. Should we move this to the Rules forum?}

I need to dig my Knucks up and look over the rules again. Seems I misplaced them when I moved a couple years ago. The one thing I do remember is that the game would be well served by some work on clairity in the rules and good examples of betting.

Tried it once, and had trouble understanding the rules.
Liked the flavor of it, but have to slog thru the rules again to understand them, or (hint hint) wait for the trolls to post a more detailed version w/ examples.
I feel, IMO, that if the rules were another panel long, they could have been clearer, as it is, I assume they were edited for length, which left them a tad murky.
But I also haven't spent enough time with it to be sure this is a fair critique, I've literrally played once.
The dice are great for rolling stats too!

Curious to know if anyone has tried this game, and what you thought of it.
I've tried it with a friend of mine about a couple of years back. It took a few tries to get used to it but it's fine. The game suffers from a lack of 'betting' guidelines though. Then again, we *are* talking about a small blister pack with very little coming with it aside from the 3 dice. But I like it enough to want a second blister pack at some point or at least hope to see a revised and 'expanded' edition.
I figure a betting pool could probably be done much in the way that one might bet in texas hold'em but I haven't tried it.
Anyone else?
