Post by mordrene »

Does anyone have this? I seen it on drivethrurpg and was wondering if it is worth it.

If you like small, cozy, self-contained campaign settings, Thunder Rift has a lot to recommend it. Designed for beginning GMs, it presents a slew of ideas that can be expanded upon to create adventures or even entire campaigns, all without having to worry much about outside influences (unless that's something the GM would like to introduce).

I like it a lot.

Don't own it, but from what I understand, it's quite popular amongst the Classic D&D crowd.

However, I did grab the In Search of Adventure mega-module a while back (in PDF also), and it is well worth it... and easily converted to C&C!

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06

It is a sort of "valley", in which different cultures reside and have developed a sort of "microcosm". There is an adventure in the last Classic D&D DM screen, which ties Thunder Rift with Mystara via a magical portal.

The setting is quite nice if one wants to develop things mostly by himself.

It's a very nice little 'self-contained' setting that can be connected to pretty much any campaign world. So it's useful if you'd like an area to run some beginning adventures until you figure out what the rest of the world is like.

The modules published for it are quite short (usually about 16-20 pages), but come with counters and map boards. So if you like to run your games with figures and battlemats, the Thunder Rift modules will likely appeal to you.

TR is very, very basic, but cool. Lots of room to expand on as a CK.
