The Old TSR Trail Maps

Hey folks,

I'm posting this in general here since I figure a few people here might be in the 'know'.

I was wondering what the general opinion on the prices over on the Acaeum were like. Are they relatively a good guide to go by?

I've sort up looked up prices a few times to get an idea when it comes to bidding and stuff on ebay or just buying some used gaming material.

However, I have a couple items in my collection which I have no use for and seem to be worth a bit. In other words, how realistic are my expectations to get said values *if* I try and sell these off?

The items in question are a couple of the old trail maps:

TM2 - The Eastern Countries (for D&D / Known World of Mystara)

TM5 - Kara Tur (the Eastern Realms)

Conditions... I hesitate to use grading since I'm not in the business of selling material. However, if I were to judge by the standards on Acaeum, I'd say the maps themselves are Near Mint (they were pulled out once to peak at and put away) with the cardboard sleeves being Fine to Very Fine... Some people may even go as to say Near Mint as well.

I know Noble Knight Games tend to sell these very high too.

At any rate, any guidance would be appreciated.

They usually update the 3-5 rated items yearly, with the more common stuff (ranked 1-2) whenever - I don't really know when the last time they did that (the dates you see on the indexes are for the specific pages, not when prices were updated.)

Anyhow I actually think the TM2 is a bit high (but I'm not apart of the main site board so don't quote me on more recent valuations) as I thought the Western map would be more desired, but who knows.

From Sieg's experiences selling, I'd say you can generally get close to the Acaeum prices if you're selling privately to other gamers. Usually you'll wind up selling for a little under if you want a quick sale, and individuals will haggle with you; especially if you're selling multiple items, it's not uncommon for someone to offer a lower price with the promise of buying the entire lot at once.

If you're going to sell to a company like Noble Knight, naturally you're going to get only a small fraction of what they turn around and sell for online. You'll get more in store credit, and if that's more of what you're after it may be a better deal for you, especially if you're already tried selling it for awhile and have had no offers.

In the past few months I've noticed that most of the more common D&D items on eBay have been generally selling for less than the listed Acaeum prices. Blame it on the economy, etc.

Keep in mind that the Acaeum prices are merely a guideline and should not be considered to be written in stone. If you get an offer from a buyer who's within a reasonable margin of the listed prices - grab it.

Thanks all. It does help a lot. I'm not realistically thinking ... 'WOW! I can get *EXACTLY* this for them' ... time to cash in!

It's a couple of things I know I have never used... will never use... and hold on to 'em just because. In one way, they are a bit of odd piece of publishing history but by no means that obscure. I have so many things and I'm simply acquiring more. I figured that others might find a better use with them than I ever will but it's always nice to get an idea what things might be worth to not get 'robbed' blind. At the same time, I'm trying to look at my collection with a bit more of a critical eye and see if there are things that I can purge.

I think you can almost always do better then Acaeum prices. You might not get the item right away, but if you are willing to invest a little time, the Acaeum prices are, in my estimation, almost always too high.

I tend to agree that the Acaeum prices are high (just as I think NKG prices are about 250% more than they should be typically,) but the data available on the website is also about 3 years out of date, and are based nearly exclusively on eBay sales (which, in my opinion, is no means to base a value.) What they are good for is seeing indicative patterns, not a price quote - they were never intended to be, either.

The Trail Maps are neat. I don't have them.

You should at least find the Known World East and West trail maps. They are by far the best in the trail map series IMO. Lots of great info, though they do end up being the most expensive.
