Does Star Seige Quick Start have an adventure?

Post by dachda »

Does anyone know if the Free RPG day, Star Siege quick start release will include a short adventure? I was thinking of running a game at my FLGS that day, but would need an adventure to go with the quick start rules.

Thanks.

I think there is one. I don't distinctly remember one being mentioned, though. It would be pretty stupid to not have a "quickstart adventure". There is one for C&C, so I would think they did one for StarSIEGE.

Even so I would bet you could use one of the Star Frontier adventures pretty easily.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Thanks for the Star Frontier idea. Haven't run a sci fi game before, so not sure about adopting to Star Seige, especially since I'll have a week at at best before I'd have to run a game for Free RPG day. I was hoping a Troll Lord would have an answer re: an adventure. I can check in with the game store though, they ought to have the quick start rules by now. I could always run the quick start C&C rules instead.

I am not so sure that Star Frontiers is as readily adaptable as one might think - it uses a different underlying system than AD&D (which is more easily adapted to C&C) and lacks some of the things that SS is supposedly adding. I am sure it can be done, of course, but it might require more "work" than a straight AD&D - C&C "conversion" would. But, I haven't seen the rules, yet, so no idea... just basing this off the small preview info made available.

'Tis true. Not very easy to wrangle the stats over to C&C/SS from SF, but the adventures are good fun and full of great ideas for setting, plot, NPC's, and creatures.

No, there's no adventure included in the quick start. But as other folks suggested, if you reeaaally need an adventure, use a plot from another SF style module.

If not, throw together a quick plot and wing it. ^_^

Ah, Star Frontiers. One of the fun games from my youth. System was okay, not too simple, not excessively clunky. Either way, it was a lot of fun. Should be 6-8 adventures one could mine from the Alpha Dawn SF series, and another 4-6 from the SF:Knighthawks ship combat series of mods. Edith Bunker, "Those were the daaaaaays!" I'm sure Archie and Edith were reminiscing about Star Frontiers, of course.

And don't forget Traveller; another great resource for mining ideas. Try to get a hold of 76 Patrons or any of the double adventures if you're looking for a short adventure. You can get the entire Classic Traveller collection on CDROM directly from Marc Miller at http://www.farfuture.net/ .

Absolutely love those LBB's!

I've never run a sci-fi rpg before so if Star Seige doesn't have an adventure I don't see myself trying to adopt an adventure from another system. Especially if I had to buy something.

The flgs has told their customers that if they want their pick of free items on Free RPG day, they must GM a game or play in one. So I thought it would be easy to run Star Seige, then go home with the quickstart. Plus I could promote the Trolls. Instead I think I should run a quickstart C&C game. This might be better anyway, as the other GM's are going to run 4e games. I can provide the counter-culture to the mainstream.

Good on you, dachda! As an added bonus, your players will have a fast-paced, fun time, and you'll all be done -- and ready to go for pizza -- around the same time as the 4e folks are finished arranging the miniatures for their second encounter!
Seriously, though, I think C&C's straightforward approach to action and adventure will serve you well, and will allow you to focus more on ensuring that everyone (including yourself) is having as much fun as possible at all points.

Less mechanics-minding = more pure play

Good luck!

This would be too funny, if it wasn't so close to the truth.

Hmm... well it looks like I'll be running some C&C for Free RPG day at one of the local stores and I'll also do my part and promote StarSiege when I can.
